I know that I've written for;

LoTR
TPM
Star Trek
X-Men

[livejournal.com profile] cave_canem is making me seriously consider the Buffyverse.

What are your thoughts on the topic?

I'm here because I've been meaning to friend you for a while now, but I've not gotten around to it; anyway, you're on my friendslist now. :)

As for your post, I'm assuming art counts?

I don't write for any other fandoms, just HP--but I've drawn VERY sparingly for Star Trek: Voyager, and for the Wiggles, and for Kim Possible. But I've never gotten shippy in my art.

I like Greg/Anthony in the Wiggles fandom, Janeway/Chakotay in STV, and Kim/Ron and Kim/Shego in Kim Possible.

Well, I've been meaning to draw some Kim/Shego for a while now, and hopefully soon I'll do some slashy Wiggles art. But writing's not my thing; it took a while for me to branch into writing in HP and it'd take some serious love to inspire me in another fandom. And I don't love the other ones nearly so much.

I was in STV before I came to Harry Potter, but I wouldn't say I left it for HP. I had sort of lost interest before I joined the HP fandom.

Depends on the size of the fandom. I couldn't pick any. *shrug*

I think it will last a GOOD LONG TIME. Fans come and go, but the size of the fandom is such that there will always be a teeming mass to support it. I think HP fandom has a long future ahead of it; I wouldn't be surprised if someday there are conventions around the world being held more frequently than they are now, just like Star Trek.

GOOD LORD LOOK AT MY FANDOMS I'm going straight to hell. Harry Potter, Kim Possible...the WIGGLES...agh!

Here via [livejournal.com profile] daily_snitch...

Depends on if you consider Angel and Buffy (and Sandman and Lucifer) separate fandoms - if yes, then 20 fandoms I've written in (including HP) and I've read in all of those fandoms as well as a few others.

Angel, Buffy, Alias, Earthsea, Firefly, Gilmore Girls, Good Omens, Homicide, LotR, Ocean's 11, Star Wars, SportsNight, Sandman, Lucifer, The Matrix, Smallville, The West Wing, X-Men Movieverse, Ultimate X-Men...

Plus, I've read in X-Files, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Iliad, Bend It Like Beckham, Master and Commander, Narnia...

I think, much like Trek, Star Wars, X-Files and other such watershed genre texts, HP will be a large, thriving fandom for many years to come.

Homicide was my first main online fandom, followed by Buffyverse, and my first finished fic was in XMM. I'm fully in love with HP (well, with my pairings anyway), but I still dabble in all those other fandoms from time to time. My focus has just shifted.

The only other fandom I write for is Lord of the Rings. Elrond/Legolas gets me all puddly, but I like most in the way of Elf/Elf...Got a bit of a soft spot for Boromir/Faramir and Eomer/Haldir.

Other than HP and LotR, I haven't written in another fandom. If I were to get into another (and I do not plan on it), it would either be Buffy/Angel or Smallville.

I think these fandoms are relatively stable. I don't think you'll ever get rid of them any time soon, considering the popularity. I think HP fandom will be around for a long, long time. We've still got a few years before the final book comes out, not to mention the last movie based on the last book, and even when some of us go on to other things, others will be there to take up the slack. Hell, the Star Trek (original) fandom is still going strong.

Besides the Harry Potter fandom -- do you write for any other fandoms currently?

I wish I had time to write for fandom... because then I would do it full time, but alas, college = my life. in the past, I wrote for lotrips, and a weird AU with Dragonriders of Pern and lotrips. I'm scared to write HP because I only read good stuff, so I hold myself up to a really high standard. same with all writing really...

What ships do you like in other fanverses?

LOTR: mostly hobbits, but also men too... i don't like the way people write elves tho, guess i'm a purist in in that Tolkien writes 'em the best
LOTRips: BillyDom HOLY CRAP, monaboyd was my fandom life for a while. i've also been known to read a good SeanLijah, Viggorli, and almost any combination except Domlijah. I refuse on that one, because too many people actually believe Dom and Elijah are really together in real life.
POTC: Sparrington is hot, but I'm more a traditionalist in the Jack/Will
OC: I've only read one, but it was the hottest thing ever, with Ryan/Seth
QAF: That fandom is scary, but that's where I got my start in fanfiction. Totally Brian/Justin.
Pern: There isn't a fandom like there is for HP and LOTR, but if there was I'd totally jump on it and ship anyone
Star Wars: I've read some horrible Luke/Han, but I could see great possibility there.
My HP ships are:
Remus/Sirius, primarily, with some James/Sirius, Harry/Ron, and Weaslycest thrown in there.

I've also been know to write drabbles of Paul Hamm/Morgan Hamm, and am waiting for a good Ian Thorpe/anyone

Or perhaps you left another fandom to come to Harry Potter?

Actually, HP is a secondary fandom for me. I just like to check out some of the really good stuff. *cough*Shoebox*cough* In case you couldn't tell, I'm totally dedicated to LOTR.

Do you consider some of the fandoms to be flash in the pans?

Yeah, totally. Troy? Come on, it was slashy, but there was no substance to it. Things like that, that don't have more of a basis in books. Not that the Illiad isn't a good book, but you know what I mean.

And lastly, how long do you foresee the Harry Potter fandom lasting?

Quite a while. QUITE!

What are your thoughts on the topic?

I'm a fan of all slash, and I think as long as there are women (yeah, women are the driving force) and computers, there will be some form of fandom.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2004-09-25 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh, I'm a Tolkien purist as well, but if you've read the books, and I do mean all of the books, I think it's absolutely possible.

I'm a bit run down on Legolas though.

Besides the Harry Potter fandom -- do you write for any other fandoms currently?
Ah, I've just started writing fanfiction, but yes, I'm curently writing Sherlock Holmes.

What ships do you like in other fanverses?
Holmes/Watson (Holmes/Moriarty!)
Xavier/Magneto
Giles/Ethan
Lawrence/Ali (movieverse)
Potentially:
Batman/Gordon (never seen it!)
Hamlet/Horatio (only seen it once)

And of course Star Trek, its my first fandom love, but strangely enough I don't read any slash etc. in there (even though Spock/Kirk is potentially the most slashy pairing of all time).

Have you considered trying your hand at writing for another fandom?
It's really for the individual characters that I (especially) write fic, so the character has to obsess me a great deal, as Professor R.J. Lupin has been since I first read PoA. And it must be long-lasting; I've been reading Star Trek and Sherlock Holmes since I was about eight or nine.

Or perhaps you left another fandom to come to Harry Potter?
I couldn't leave a fandom I really loved! They'll be there for me always.

Do you consider some of the fandoms to be flash in the pans?
Er, probably, but I'm not very up on these things. I just follow what interests me, and that's not so very many things.

And lastly, how long do you foresee the Harry Potter fandom lasting?
It's the Star Trek of the younger generation! It'll be around a long time.

I was a huge Lupin fan until David Thewlis came along and spoiled him for me. Remus/Sirius was my start into slash.

Don't write for HP. If I did it would be Harry/Draco as adults.

I do write for Stargate SG-1 Jack/Daniel, X-Files Mulder/Krycek, Ultraviolet Mike/Jack and The Professionals Bodie/Doyle

And lastly, how long do you foresee the Harry Potter fandom lasting?

For as long as people retain an interest in it. The Professionals was first broadcast on British TV in 1979 and went on for four years. It's therefore 25 years old and the fandom is still active and gaining new fans. If you've seen Ray Doyle in tight jeans you'd probably understand why. *g*. The X-Files lost a lot of fans when it finished, but at 10 years of age it still retains fans and gains fans.

1. I don't write but I read extensively. Started in Trek waaay back before the Internet became a daily thing. I had 'zines. Got into all the other Treks and jumped into Highlander and then HP. Been involved in fandom for OMG over 30 yrs????

2. In Classic Trek Kirk/Spock, Spock/Chapel, Spock/Uhura. Jungle Kitty did some excellent Spock/Uhura. In Next Gen didn't have a ship except towards the end I liked Troi/Worf, that looked interesting especially with the son involved. DS9, oh I was in LOVE with Sisko I wanted him with just about anyone, and I read him that way too. Voyager was all slash all the time. But it came down to finally Chakotay and Tom Paris. I dabbled in het there with Janeway and Paris and I loved it. I wandered away from it as season 7 happened and it just went to hell for me there. Don't know why but it did. It was going that way for awhile. Highlander was Methos/Duncan, dabbled in some other relationships but they WERE the OTP there. HP? Snape. It's all about Severus. Have read het and slash and the OTP for me is Snarry. I love a good Snarry and there has been alot of it.

4. Flash in the pan? I guess Highlander was, I only hung with it for 3 yrs. I saw alot of interest in SW:TPM after the movie. Don't see that much anymore. Sentinel seemed that way too, although I know people are still involved it isn't a big one like it used to be.

3. Left Highlander for HP after the first HP movie and devouring the first 4 books.

5. HP will last as long as Trek has, in my opinion. It is a very wealthy universe to play in. It has enough to keep people writing and talking for yrs. And unlike Anne McCaffrey and Anne Rice, JKR won't shut it down to fanfic. Smart of her to do that.

Besides the Harry Potter fandom -- do you write for any other fandoms currently?

I wouldn't say so much 'write' as I am currently up to my ears in presentations and papers for my college classes, but I do surf around in plenty of fandoms. My BIG ONE is Harry Potter, although I started in Animorphs, went to writing RPF (N'Sync ::blush::), Newsies, and then to HP. I still read/write the last one, not so much the middle, and none of the first. Which kind of makes me sad because I loved those books. But my other fandoms that I'm not really active in but like anyway are LotR, The West Wing, Good Omens, PotC, General Hospital and I'll write/read for pretty much any book, TV series, or movie that I've ever read/watched and liked.

What ships do you like in other fanverses?
I'll read pretty much anything so long as it's well written but my favorites are:
LotR: Faramir/Eowyn, and Legolas/Eowyn -- a fandom ship to boot, I know, but it's been done! And it's been done decently! (At least, I liked it.) I just like reading about Eowyn.
The West Wing -- Josh/Donna (::points to icon::), Josh/Sam, Sam/Ainsley (although I've yet to see a fic that I loved the characterization in for this pairing).
PotC -- Will/Elizabeth, but I'll never say no to some decent Will/Jack.
GH -- Journey (Jason/Courtney). I will not budge on this one. I used to like Carson (Sonny/Carly) but I'm liking Starly (Steve/Carly) more and more. And GQ (Dillon/Georgie) is great. I loved Slye (Luke/Skye, although my Luke/Laura mother beat me over the head with a notebook, quite literally).

Have you considered trying your hand at writing for another fandom?
I write a lot... I just go where my imagination leads me. I've written lots of fanfiction in my day, not all of it good and certainly not all of it posted on the web.

Or perhaps you left another fandom to come to Harry Potter?
Er. I wouldn't say so much "left" as "lessened my presence in".

Do you consider some of the fandoms to be flash in the pans?
When I first read a book or see a movie/TV show, I'll be really excited about it, and then my interest will die a little.

And lastly, how long do you foresee the Harry Potter fandom lasting?
I want Heidi to thwap my kids on FAP for being brats. :D

Let's see if I can recall all the fandoms I've written in:
Days of Our Lives, Blake's 7, Man from U.N.C.L.E., Wizards & Warriors, Shadow Chasers, Quantum Leap, Highlander, Touched By An Angel, American Gothic, Buffy, Xena, and HP and some crossovers in other fandoms I'm not going to mention. Paranoid, moi? You betcha! Not all of them have been published; some remain mercifully under lock and key. Some stories are gen, some het, some slash, some have something for everyone.

Some fandoms I don't even commit to paper. I've been involved in more fandoms than the ones listed above; I'm obviously very fickle. Usually I lose interest when there's no new input (show is cancelled or completed, little or no fanfic). I also leave when the fandom starts to tear itself apart like a pack of rabid dogs, or the general atmosphere of the more psychotic -- er, vocal fans scares me away.

I'm amazed at the size of HP fandom, and I think it will continue until Book 7 is published; maybe longer, especially if movies are made of 6 and 7.

Besides the Harry Potter fandom -- do you write for any other fandoms currently?

I write in Gundam Wing on and off, I'm currently indulging in a little Firefly, and sometimes I go back to my old fandoms, or write xovers.

What ships do you like in other fanverses?

Sparrington (PotC), Krycek/Skinner, Krycek/Mulder, Skinner/Mulder, Scully/Skinner (XF), 1x2, 3x4, 2x4, 3x5, 2x5, 1x3, Une/anybody, Dorothyx4 (Gundam Wing), Methos/Duncan, Amanda femmeslash (HL), Mac/Vic, Lianne/Director (OaT), Bassez, Trickyfish, JoeC, TrickC, AJ/anybody, just about all xover pairings (popslash)

Have you considered trying your hand at writing for another fandom?

see above

Or perhaps you left another fandom to come to Harry Potter?

popslash, altho I rarely feel that I've completely left a fandom. for instance, I still read certain stories in that fandom and I sometimes write it as presents, or I do xovers.

Do you consider some of the fandoms to be flash in the pans?

I think most movies at least run the risk of that. I mean, obviously for things like LotR there's a lot more history and three years of film and a combined, what, twelve hours if you count the unediteds? But a one-off film or book, it has to be proven to me that that type of fandom will last. There's not as much material (or sustained excitement) to keep it on its feet.

And lastly, how long do you foresee the Harry Potter fandom lasting?

At least until the last movie is out, if not longer. After all, I got involved in HL two years after the series ended. Just because something's over doesn't mean fandom is ready to dispose of it.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2004-09-26 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sparrington (PotC)

I definitely see the appeal, but because this originated from 'one' movie, it never caught my attention.

It's almost the Snape/Black of the PotC fandom.

Here via DS. My writing is mostly RPG wise, and otherwise I read a lot.

Besides the Harry Potter fandom -- do you write for any other fandoms currently?
There are a few other fandoms I feel well in. That includes a whole lot of different anime fandoms, some video game fandoms, and some movies (PotC comes to mind). I also enjoy some more obscure fandoms, like for example Bible Slash, Norse Mythology Slash (so many canon kinks*g*) etc.

What ships do you like in other fanverses?
In nearly every fanverse I have one OTP. In a few fandoms it's two. Mostly because I always have one favourite char and one or two others I like nearly as much. I always pair my favourites, disregarding the probability. I just can't like a pairing in which I don't like one half (or third).
My favourite pairings (other than HP) include
Garak/Bashir (DS9)
Sephiroth/Vincent and Nanaki/Vincent (FF7)
Spike/Giles (Buffy)
Moriarty/Holmes (Sherlock Holmes, Bookverse)
Roland/Eddie (The Dark Tower)
Orochimaru/Kabuto (Naruto)
and many others.

Have you considered trying your hand at writing for another fandom?
>_> I did a drabble for TPM for a friend. In german. It was actually quite fun. Otherwise, I'd mostly RP, not write fanfic, and when it comes to RP I feel confident enough to play in all of my fandoms as long as I have a good participant.

Or perhaps you left another fandom to come to Harry Potter?
I never left a fandom for another fandom. I only leave fandoms when they don't give me anything anymore.

Do you consider some of the fandoms to be flash in the pans?
Definitely. Many fandoms that are based on one movie suffer that fate. PotC, Troy, and yes, even the LotR movie fandom will eventually die down, returning to the book fans. Also, no offense meant, but most american anime fandoms are like that. They base on the american version of the anime or manga, and when that doesn't run in TV anymore or the manga is done, it all crumbles, as it gets a lot less influx than the japanese fandom does.

And lastly, how long do you foresee the Harry Potter fandom lasting?
Long. Very long. The fandom is already huge, and it has a huge part book fandom (those often last the longest). There's still two books to come, then more movies, and after that, the books will still be easily accessable, due to their huge success. It will probably calm down a bit after book 7 (which is no bad thing), but it won't fade for very long.

Hi! I’m here from the [community profile] daily_snitch. ^___^

Besides the Harry Potter fandom -- do you write for any other fandoms currently?
Yes. In a manner of speaking. ^__~

What ships do you like in other fanverses?
Spiderman: Harry/Peter, Venom/Peter, sometimes even Norman/Peter
Fruits Basket: Yuki/Kyou, Haru/Kyou, Hatori/Kyou, Shigure/Kyou, Ayame/Kyou
Escaflowne: Dilandau/Van, Van/Eries, Allen/Eries
NSYNC: JC/Lance, Justin/Lance
So Weird: Carey/Fi, Clu/Fi
X-Men: Bobby/John, Logan/Peter
X-Men/Spiderman crossover: Logan/Peter, Scott/Peter
LotR (movieverse): Aragorn/Legolas
HP RPS: Tom/Dan, Rupert/Dan
Trigun: Vash/Wolfwood
Cowboy Bebop: Spike/Faye
PotC: Jack/Will
Troy (movieverse): Achilles/Hector
Pilot Candidate: Hiead/Zero
The Faculty: Zeke/Casey
Gundam Wing: 2x1

And, no, I’m not actually in all those fandoms. Some of them are past fandoms, some I only check in on every once and a while, some I used to check in on but haven’t lately, and some I consider myself a member of, but haven’t actually written anything for.
Also, some of the pairings I’ve listed are so rare that I haven’t actually read anything involving them—but I like the idea. ^__~

Have you considered trying your hand at writing for another fandom?
Yes.

Or perhaps you left another fandom to come to Harry Potter?
Yes again. My first fandom was Passions, which was soon eclipsed by In A Heartbeat, which was then replaced with Harry Potter—which I’ve stuck with, with differing levels of dedication, ever since (though I dabble in other fandoms).

Do you consider some of the fandoms to be flash in the pans?
In retrospect—yes.

And lastly, how long do you foresee the Harry Potter fandom lasting?
A long time.

I'm dont actually consider myself as writing in any fandoms currently - I occasionally have little plot bunnies that I write down, but I havent written anything that I've published in months. However, I've got notebooks on the go that contain Harry Potter, Stargate SG1, Lord of the Rings, and a REALLY tiny amount of Buffy. I used to write in the Gundam Wing (anime) verse aswell.

At the moment, my biggest ship is probably Jack/Daniel in Stargate SG1 - I'm also quite fond of Sam/Janet (SG1 again), and my LOTR OTP's are really boring - Legolas/Aragorn, Frodo/Sam, Merry/Pippin... not very creative, lmao...

I've still got my hands in several different fandoms, though I dont write in all of them. I dont like writing fics that seem clichéd (well, I do, but I never post them online! LOL) - which is why I dont post much fic; if it's not relatively new and unusual, I dont want to share it *shrugs*

The fandom will last as long as there's people around who enjoy the books and/or films. It's like fandoms such as Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR... it's one of those prolific fandoms that will be around for as long as people remember them.
