A Rant
So sue me. I'm overdue :P And what with being sick and losing the first draft of my recs, I'm about as murderous as Lucius Malfoy in a room full of Muggles.
The Remus/Sirius fans might agree with me here.
You're reading that Remus/Sirius sex on the motorcycle fic, and the author doesn't know shit from shinola when it comes to motorcycles and corresponding periods and countries. Crotch rockets, people? Harley Davidsons? Somebody needs a bitchslapping, man.
Triumph. Possibly an Indian. Never a Honda.
And if you must be an ass and put Sirius on a Harley -- there is a fucking 'd' before the 's' in Davidson.
That is all.

I've always seen Sirius on a '65 BMW R60. Or maybe a really old army R12 that he was constantly tinkering on. But that's probably just cause I love those bikes. :)

I'll also add to that another fandom complaint, for LOTRips RPS fics. The boys surf, but most authors know absolute crap about surfing and it leaves me wanting to scream. There's just some things that HOWL out that the author has no practical experience about it.

I haven't updated my rec list/community (Twisted Fantasy) in ages because it is so hard finding some new snarry and drarry fics which are NOT WIPs and great at the same time. =(

But I really can't imagine Sirius on a Harley Davidson...you can partially blame it on the "Harley Davidson leggings" every girl wore in the mid-nineties. Or simply because it's a too "American" motorcycle.
And who'd put him on a Honda?

Heh, it's English! And it won races during the seventies. And a model from the early seventies would have been second hand enough for Sirius to buy it!

I agree that people should get their facts straight and I'll always check that a make or model existed in the time frame I'm writing about - drives me insane when people don't.
just out of interest hon - what's Sirius got against Honda? In 1977 I was pillion riding on one of these... brummmm. bruuummmmm........oh those vibrations... However I do understand that he's quite likely to favour the british bikes.

The only way I can really differentiate them is by general build -- Harleys, for example, look very heavy and, erm, overloaded, to me, usually. Very bulky and overdone. Smaller, lighter-looking models look, well, smaller and lighter, but that's the limit of my classifications. :D

But yeah.
Just curious, but what year bike would you think he'd have anyhow? New for his year? Something older that'd been tinkered with for a while to make it fly? It's been bugging me greatly.

And she's a 1970 Norton Commando, 750ccs, black with gold trim, damnit.
And if not, then yes, a Triumph.
