Fandom Discussion: New HBP Additions -- yea or nay?

Since there have been several new character additions from HBP, I decided to do a post to see who took a shine or a dislike to whom -- and also to discuss new favorite ships.

I see no reason really to put this behind a cut. But I implore you, if you have not yet read HBP, DON'T peruse the comments!

So without further adieu...

What new characters did you like/dislike?

What new ships (or renewed interests in old, forgotten ships) have tickled your fancy?

Fenrir/Sanguini. Totally!
Morfin Gaunt/Tom Riddle Snr.
Portrait!Smut - Phineas Nigellus/Dumbledore
Romilda/Luna. Or for that matter Romilda/anyone. lol.
Fred/Bill. Don't know why.
Draco/polyjuiced Crabbe and Goyle. (That scene where Harry's on his way to Quiddich....)
Slughorn and Scrimgeour. Not necessarily together, but both are so slashable.

For the older ships:
Even thought its het. Cannot ignore Snape/Narcissa.
Harry/Draco is my otp. so, yes.
Snaco. Oh yes.
Snarry. So angsty.
And of course. Young!Tom/Harry. Everytime he went in, he was on about how handsome Riddle was. Ginny didn't get that much perving!

I like Remus/Tonks but not the way it was played in canon. Hence my long and twisty explanation of what was really going on here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/pinkdormouse/366510.html).

I really don't like Slughorn, because I've met too many of him, and usually ended up shielding my best boys from his type.

Filch/Pince amused me, because there had to be a teacher pairing somewhere that the pupils gossip about.

And I liked the fleshing out of Draco.

Still undecided re Snape's actions.

Oh god, Slughorn is awesome. So awesome. *rolls in his fat*

Also, Rufus Scromgeour owns a small piece of my soul. I can't resist a feline man with wire-rimmed wee glasses, greying hair and a LIMP. Homg. *hump*

For new ships, I've got to try Scrimgeour/ANYONE. I don't care. I just want to see Scrimgeour pr0n. D: ... Maybe I'll do that later.

Also, Greyback/some soon-to-be-corrupted child.

Fenrir is great. He scared the shit out of me.

Slughorn is an interesting character. He's not a Death Eater, but still very Slytherin.

I was glad to see a bit more of Bellatrix and Narcissa. I didn't give a damn about Draco before this book, but he got a bit more interesting now.

Another character I got a renewed interest in was Dumbledore.

I'm as fond of Snape as ever.

Ships:
Snape/Narcissa, Snape/Bellatrix, Snape/Peter, Snaco (Most of the Snape ships I liked before are much more difficult to pull off now, but there are new possibilities.)
Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, Bill/Fleur, Remus/Tonks, Draco/Pansy, Blaise/Ginny
Ron/Squid

I liked Sanguini, and Fenrir. I didn't like Scrimgeour, and McLaggen. Slughorn... I'm still not quite sure whether I liked him or not but I definitely didn't find him sexy - at all. And I'm not interested in any of the new female characters, like Romilda and Demelza.

Regarding old characters, I liked Draco. And Zabini (finally a description!) And I'm in love with Snape more than ever.

Ships: Snape/Harry, Snape/Draco (I loved these ships anyway.)
Renewed interest: Harry/Draco because that scene in the train with Draco breaking Harry's nose... and Harry casting Sectumsempra at Draco... *g*
I'd also love to see a Snape/Narcissa/Bella threesome.

This doesn't mean I'll stop reading my other favourite Snape, Lucius, and Sirius pairings.

Sanguini, YAY! I want a pet vampire too. ^_^

And I'm probably going to be lapidated for this but...

Can I squee about Blaise? I'm so glad we finally have a face! :D I'm looking forward to all the new het and slash that will come from that. :D

Out of the characters introduced in HBP, I do have to say that Slughorn was fascinating if creepy, and Fenrir (?) totally the same but even more so. Biting people on purpose? When he's not even changed? Woah.

Oh, and long live the Snaco! :P

Sanguini. Because it reminds me of pasta, and I'm on a vampyre kick.

And Romilda (did I get her name right?). Crafty. Clever. Yet pretty annoying.

I loved Slughorn, the lovely little fat git. :))

Sanguini definitely. Um Regelus(not new but got more mention)
That's about it for new character love, the rest just sort of creep me out.

Loved the extra developement of the Malfoys though, and yay for a yummy Blaise description.

OTP stays the same D/H with a surprising bit of support from JKR-at times I swore I was reading fanfic.

In support of canon though, I'm willing to expand briefly to D/H/G

Slughorn isn't quite as cool as Phineas Nigellus.

Like
Harry/Draco - too funny and so obsessive
Regulus - um, *squee* for the favorite character here :)
Snape, Draco, Narcissia, Bellatrix, Tom, Peter - Death Eater characters are tres cool to read about
Slughorn - wasn't sure at first, but the man is cool
The really strange lines that are great out of context - made the book more amusing than it should have been, I'm sure

Dislike
Remus - Too flat and not enough page-time
Remus/Tonks - Canon or not, I don't like it (or Tonks, for that matter)
Lack of Sirius being mentioned - He just died last book. I think we should get a semi-long scene of some sort dealing with this
The Romance - It came out of no where for the most part

SLUGHORN!

And all those lovely, lovely Slug Club orgies.

[identity profile] riibu.livejournal.com 2005-07-20 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Liked: Slughorn, the Gaunt family. Narcissa's character development. Albus Dumbledore. Snape. Tom Riddle.

The best new ship: Hepzibah Smith/Tom Riddle! Ah, Riddle/anyone. ;)

In addition, I'm starting to see Lily/Severus everywhere.

Don't know if this will be anything new, but...

Anyone/Luna: Be it Harry or Ron. I loved Luna in this. I just loved her.

And Severus/Narcissa: for one, I'll ship het! Add to that Bill/Fleur: she nailed Mrs.Weasley, whom I loathed. What was up with the daughter in law hate?

Aaaah... Albus/Severus. I couldn't picture Albus in anything other than gen before HBP. Now with that scene...

Harry/Dead!Sirius, unrequited: (...) a long and happy relationship(...). 'Nuff said.

As for new characters, I loved the twisted Gaunt family:inbreeding anyone? And EVOL!Young Tom. Quite a complex child... Hated Weepy!Tonks though. She had so much spunk in OoTP. Too bad. But I suppose I loved the new concepts more than the new characters: Horcruxes rock!

::goes to look for fanfiction HBP compliant::

Likes:
Slughorn! I love the idea of a slimy and not overtly evil Slytherin.

So-so:
Fenrir - He's a little too far into dark fic for me, but I would be interested in seeing some dominance fic, maybe with Lupin or Lucius? (Yes, I have a thing for dominant males).

Dislikes:
Could we please have just *one* female character who isn't angsting? JKR needs to realize that just because she got herself hitched and is popping babies out doesn't mean that she has to pair off every single female in the series. Women really can stand on their own. *gasp*

Pairings:
My new crack pairing is Lily/Slughorn... I *need* to see someone right this, or I'll have to do it myself.

Bella/Snape has some interesting possibilities, if I can get past the Snupin bug that I seem to have caught.

And I would love to see Tonks femmeslash. I'm a R/T shipper, but I would love to see a woman with strength of character beat Little Miss Nymphadora with a cluebat.

[identity profile] adjectivegirl.livejournal.com 2005-07-21 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
*jumps on with both feet* Fenrir. Jeebus but he's potent material. Even with Lupin I was never sure how vicious werewolves could be in the Rowlingverse and the answer is: extremely. Makes the stakes that much higher for Lupin to get ...entangled.

And there will be chan. Oh ho HO will there be chan. *squicks slightly, limps, walks it off*

I got right back in love with Dumbledore, saw Harry/Dumbledore for the first time, maybe it was Dumbledore being all heroic and virile and ...never mind. Ew.

Hagrid/Olypme!

I'm thinking of a sexy fluffy fic involving Bill and Fleur's wedding night...which let's say...happens to be near a full moon...and Remus comes to see if they're alright, certain wine is drunk, etc. However I practically forgot who Bill was in this book, kept mixing him with Charlie, so that needs some clarifyin'.

Bellatrix/Snape/Narcissa. Everyone's thinking it, Pettrigrew's filmin' it. Hehehe.

Tom/Harry, Harry/Draco, Draco/Myrtle. ...what? Did I mention Gauntcest? Pretend I didn't say anything.

I think what's better than all the nifty new pairing possibilities is that there are a ton of genfic opportunities to be had. I would love a flashback MWPP era Slug Club scene. Lucius being told his son had failed.

but the big'un to come out of this book, somewhat accidentally?

Snapledore. *ew* *aw* *ew* *aw*

Fenrir. Who can dislike so much potential for darkfics?

Slughorn, because he's hilarious.

Harry/Draco, for a lot more than hate!sex now, despite the whole nose-breakage and sectosempra business, Harry finally saw Draco as a human being and let's face it, Draco's always been obssessed...
