The 'Increase Your Vocabulary Snarry-style' Thread

Since my last 'Increase Your Vocabulary' post went over well, I thought I'd do another. This one is Snarry themed, and really all you need to do to participate are post words and their definitions that describe Snape and Harry individually. These words should be fairly uncommon. The whole point of this exercise is to learn new words or maybe pass on some of that superior intellect to your fellow ficcers.

I'll start.

Harry

Impetuous = Characterized by sudden and forceful energy or emotion; impulsive and passionate.

CAPSLOCK!HARRY anyone?

Snape

Aquiline = Curved or hooked like an eagle's beak: an aquiline nose.

I always liked this word to describe Snape's nose. Breaks the monotony of 'hooked' or 'beaky.'

Go to it, folks!

Harry

temerarious: reckless, rash

fatuous: foolish, brainless (that's Snape's opinion of Harry, not mine! *g*)

Snape

inexorable: rigidly severe, relentless

mordant: caustic, biting (to describe Snape's sarcasm)
libitina: Wei Yingluo from Story of Yanxi Palace in full fancy costume holding a gaiwan and sipping tea (HP dark textbook (from casira))

I don't know... I think of mordant as it is specifically used in dying... mainly a caustic chemical that will make the dye more brilliant and colorfast... often ammonia... and back in the day derived from pee.

Yes, I know, that's mordant as a noun. But as an adjective it is also used to describe thought, manner, or style, as in "a mordant wit". Perhaps I should have clarified it.

Naw... it was clearly an adjective. And it still makes me think of pee.

Cause I'm classy.

*laughs*

Oh no, I will have a hard time trying to forget the mordant=pee association from now on. And I really liked the sound of that word...

And of Neville, Seamus, Ron... *whistles*
