The 'Increase Your Vocabulary Snarry-style' Thread

Since my last 'Increase Your Vocabulary' post went over well, I thought I'd do another. This one is Snarry themed, and really all you need to do to participate are post words and their definitions that describe Snape and Harry individually. These words should be fairly uncommon. The whole point of this exercise is to learn new words or maybe pass on some of that superior intellect to your fellow ficcers.

I'll start.

Harry

Impetuous = Characterized by sudden and forceful energy or emotion; impulsive and passionate.

CAPSLOCK!HARRY anyone?

Snape

Aquiline = Curved or hooked like an eagle's beak: an aquiline nose.

I always liked this word to describe Snape's nose. Breaks the monotony of 'hooked' or 'beaky.'

Go to it, folks!

approbation
An expression of warm approval; praise.

Harry craved...

mellifluous
Smooth and sweet: “polite and cordial, with a mellifluous, well-educated voice” (H.W. Crocker III).

The definition is so very Snape--except for the 'polite and cordial' part in some circles. :)

Harry

Ephemeral = Short lived, fleeting, usually used to describe something lovely that dies quickly.

Peripatetic = aimless, itinerant; one who walks... I've seen it used to describe a traveler's soul and/or to do something without consistancy or regimen, just as the moment takes you.

Contumacious = opposing righful authority, obstinate,

Snape

Saturnine = Morose, gloomy. I've also seen it used to indicate bookish (with heavy influence of morose, gloomy).

Erudite = Deeply read, learned.

Abstemious = Sparing in food or drink (or pleasures, as I've seen it used), temperate, sober.

And, to top it all off...

Contumelious = contemptuous, insolent, proudly rude. ;-)

Harry:

...
*drawing a blank here* (my inner Snape!muse proposes: "obtuse" and "not nearly obsequious enough") Therefore:

obtuse - Lacking in insight or discernment; Slow to learn or understand; lacking intellectual acuity

obsequious - Attempting to win favor from influential people by flattery; attentive in an ingratiating or servile manner

Snape:

perspicacious: (1) Acutely insightful and wise; (2) Mentally acute or penetratingly discerning.

(Although I would attach this label more to Dumbledore than Snape. Snape!muse won't hear of it. LOL)
