Because you can never have enough Neil Gaiman

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl's direction, I've just purchased 'Neverwhere' on DVD.

This is by far my favorite book of Neil Gaiman's.

And speaking of [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl and her lovely art, Settling Up has been haunting me ever since she posted it.

This SO needs to be ficced, and I want to give it a shot.

Give it a shot!

I also love Neverwhere. I wish I felt up to writing in that universe because I just adore it so much!

I would be ever so grateful if you wrote up a little something to go with that picture.

Ooooh, the movie is actually really good! (I was somewhat surprised, actually!) And YES - you need to fic that picture!!! omgsohot.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
C'mon now, it's Neil Gaiman.

And the Marquis is teh hot. *G*

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! Do you mean--hasn't someone ficced that? Is it all a hallucination of mine that there's fic to go with that? *hunts through hard drive and web*

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you fic this, Amy?

And if so -- WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T I SEE IT?

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't me! I thought to myself that I'd READ it, and was thinking, "Ooh, that was a good piece, wish I'd written it"--but now I'm thinking it was a hallucination! Does it truly not exist?

I think I need to write [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl...

[identity profile] kaptainsnot.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, I never tire of re-reading that. Is it good to watch? I never saw it -- was always tempted, but never did. I guess a possibly bad version of the marquis always averted my attention.

Neverwhere

My two cents, your mileage may vary, insert typical disclaimer here.

I liked the book more than the BBC movie.

Yes, I know the script came first and then Gaiman fleshed it out, but the BBC scifi production values are, well, BBC scifi production values, and while I'm happy with Red Dwarf and Doctor Who has a style all its own, I'd love to see Neverwhere done with a real budget. Even Gaiman admits that the Boar turned out less monstorous and more... just badly shot. And the actress who plays Hunter is just ... *cringe*. So I replace her in my head with Gina Torres and the world is a better place.

That being said, the Marquis, and the actor who play him whose name I can never remember, is the single. Best. Thing. in the film. He's marvelous.

-nods- Ah, thank you. I'm glad to hear you liked him in it -- it seems to be a popular opinion, which is motivating. I'll see if I can get it out soon; I expected it to be very low budget and lacking in the arts department, so the rest probably won't come as a surprise.

Seeing it done by a good director with a higher budget would be amazing, someone really needs to do that. And it's too bad about Hunter...though I just noticed Laura Fraser plays Door, which I hope was a good thing. I loved her as Titus' Lavinia, although that's probably it.

not meny pipol knowe dis bat thy book is ekshely an adapteshen of the skript not the ader wey orond . apart from the gret bist of london ( wich is a mos fazi lokink kawo ) the film rely risembel the books and is gret .

[identity profile] kaptainsnot.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'd known that much -- kinda made me think the film must have something good in it, but it all might just be potential leading up to the actual book. I hope it was just plain good, and Gaiman simply felt he could successfully put it through a different audience.

::envies muchly:: hope you enjoy it... I've been wanting to see that literally for years. First a geek pal in a comic shop promised to make a video copy for me for over a year, then I discovered it could be downloaded from Kaazaa, only that doesn't work on macs. I've been drooling over it ever since I saw the DVD set in B&N a couple of months ago but am still too broke. Have you heard aboutA Short Film About John Bolton (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00061QJAI/qid=1105658801/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-8859363-8971107?v=glance&s=dvd)? I don't know much about the film, but I want it just because it has the documentary "Live at the Aladdin" on it which is definitely worth it- it has Neil reading his stories, including "Chivalry" and a wicked funny drunken rant about writing. /raving
