*scratches head*

Okay -- three, count them THREE people have told me I'm intimidating today.

Should I be flattered or insulted?

What makes people say this about me?

Yes, I consider myself to be an alpha female, but I mean WTF?

Personally, it annoys me when people say that about me. It's not as if I've gone out of my way to make them uncomfortable. I do think they mean it in a nice way, though I can't figure out how, but it still bothers me.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes me feel like the big, bad bitch -- and really, I'm not.

[identity profile] chuffing.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I'm about as harmless as a bowl of cooked rice.

[identity profile] satinvalkyrie.livejournal.com 2004-11-21 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
*loves on you* I like that about you, but then you knew that. Just thought I'd go public with it. MWAH!

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I know -- and I love you for loving me for it. *snuzz*

[identity profile] atdelphi.livejournal.com 2004-11-21 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd answer that, but I find you too intimidating.

...just kidding :-P

Seriously, I find when people make those sorts of comments, they're responding to something in themselves rather than something about you. For instance, I get that I'm 'standoffish' a lot, and that I 'make people feel stupid.' Which totally isn't intentional. I'm just really shy and quiet around people I don't know well, and I use 'big words' and correct grammar without thinking about it. It's other people's insecurities that then make the jump to "She thinks she's better than me." I suspect the same thing holds true for finding someone intimidating - they likely just don't feel as confidant as you.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Now see, I don't find you stand-offish at all.

[identity profile] scarah2.livejournal.com 2004-11-21 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Flattered.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Only if you're sure, Sarah :-)

[identity profile] aimlesscoyote.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 02:02 am (UTC)(link)

...That question intimidates me.

X-D

You're intimidating?

Says who?

*looks all confused*

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
People in fandom. Go figure. *throws hands up*

[identity profile] starkittyn.livejournal.com 2004-11-23 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think you're quite cute and bunny like. *g*

[identity profile] maruchina.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure. XD I'm always surprised when people call me intimidating, as I think I'm about as intimidating as a disabled baby mouse. People are weird.

[identity profile] maruchina.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHA! I can be! ;)

[identity profile] gmth.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
I get it, too. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/gmth/140654.html)

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I went over and read your thread. You really threw the gloves off when you asked, Gina. LOL!

But personally, I like when people are direct.

[identity profile] tipgardner.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
And the comment wasn't accompanied by, "...and I like it!" ;)

I think that deals more with people's in security that you. But if enough people say something about you that you feel may prove detrimental, fairly on unfairly, sometimes it is at least worth exploring. To me, though, when a woman is intimidating, it's a very positive thing. It means she hasn't let society strip her of the powerful curiosity and strength that she had before schools, boys, professors and who all else started to wear her down.

Women labeled as 'intimidating' get nailed by that bitch stereotype though.

I think maybe I just expect too much from people. I'm an 'in your face' kinda gal.

I've been told I'm intimidating (which confuses the heck of out me, but there you have it)... I think sometimes the way we're perceived on LJ is different from RL because words can only convey so much.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That's so true -- and unfortunate in many ways.

intimidating and other titles

[identity profile] velyrhorde.livejournal.com 2004-11-23 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
I am "intimidating" "rude" "sarcastic" and a "smart ass" depending on who you talk to. I always figure the people talking have self esteem issues and/or didn't understand the words coming out of my mouth.

To everyone who calls us intimidating, etc. - Yes, I have a high IQ ... yes, I use a helluva lot of big words and I know what each of them means ... yes, I will bite you with humor if you say or do something really stupid that you knew better than to try ... and no, calling me names isn't going to change the way I act!

Intimidating women are so damn sexy!
