Harry and Draco -- But the little girls understand

WARNING -- SERIOUS FANDOM RANT

Is anyone as sick of pointless, plotless, inane, and tritely written Harry/Draco like I am?

I mean seriously, why the fuck do most people who attempt to write this pairing insist on following the SAME GODDAMN BORING outline?

Sound familiar?

Boy meets boy
Boy hates boy
Boy crushes on boy
Boy ends up fucking boy
Boy angsts
Boy still hates boy

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

What...the...fuck?

What about this pairing zaps the creativity from some people?

Where is it written that *gasp* established H/D with plot is a big fucking no no?

I don't profess to be the best H/D shipper. Far the fuck from it, but at least my H/D stories were different from the norm.

Oh fucking wheee, let's use the same fucking story and just change the kink. I see it all the time. I see the same shitty H/D authors being recced.

Fuck this.

If you hate seeing this as much as I do, voice your opinion. To the creative H/D writers - you KNOW who you are. Give me a shout out, hmm?

If you hate this pairing, tell us all why.

Really disgusted.

Just adding my agreement here. The thing I love most about the H/D pairing is all that baggage they carry around - is it honest hatred or sublimated desire? In my mind, it could be either, and when the author skips the exploration of that and jumps into a happy relationship, I feel cheated. And I feel like the author has cheated a bit, too, in expecting us to jump on board with no questions asked. Because the prospect of happy H/D raises a *lot* of questions in my mind.

There is a middle ground between the first time fics and the established relationship fics. I'm talking about the post-Hogwarts reunion fics. Harry and Draco had feelings they never acted on, or had a brief fling, or were wrenched apart for some reason, and then they're brought back together again after X number of years. The reasons for them coming together again are wide open to author creativity, and then we readers get to see them fall in love all over again. It's actually more angstful that way, becuase they both know what could/did exist between them, but they're being stupid or stubborn.

I see a lot of H/D written by really young girls in love with the idea of love. Bless their little romantic hearts, but their work is pretty bad. For thye love of all that is holy, stop writing one of the pair as a girl with a dick!

Oh, I do agree, and I love fics like that. A couple that jump immediately to mind are [livejournal.com profile] lupin_agile's A Sea Change (http://www.livejournal.com/users/lapin_agile/1869.html) and [livejournal.com profile] olivia_lupin's Mutual Interest (http://w00blet.com/fransbday.html), both of which assume a time when the boyhood hurts have had a chance to scab over a bit and other emotions rise to the top. I love both those fics very much.

Wow. Someone gacked my icon. Hee! Though if you want to credit, the credit goes to me or [livejournal.com profile] idiotparade for the original icon that I made mine off of.

But, hee, that's the first time I've seen an icon of mine gacked by someone I don't know.

Thank you!!! I right clicked a while back to save it for something else, but I didn't bookmark where I got it from. I wander so much that I didn't have a clue where I'd seen it. Once I joined lj I wanted to use it, but I've felt bad about not being able to credit it properly.

Now if I can only figure out how do credits properly... I tried to do it as "Do you know where I stole this?" but it doesn't seem to come up as anything other than my username.
