Reveals are up at [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays! A few unexpected surprises. Always lovely to discover new authors. *G*

Huge thanks go to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] mindabbles for my gift. Your Draco is to die for, darling ♥ ♥ ♥

So, the other day I had a guessing poll on my LJ and nobody guessed correctly. I would've thought that the steampunk would've been a dead give-away, but alas, I was mistaken :(((

I wrote A Quiet Full of Longing for [livejournal.com profile] katerina_black.

I was greatly inspired to try writing future tense after a second reading of [livejournal.com profile] rinsbane's 'The Gnostic Crane.' I wanted to do a daydream sequence in which Draco imagines how great his life could be if only he'd make a kind gesture towards Harry. And this is basically what fell out of my head.

Yeah, I know. Future tense/second person is tricky and offputting to a lot of people. Personally, I don't understand the prejudice. However, I am one of those writers that just does NOT give a fuck about differing tense/pov semantics if there's a story to be told. Obviously, people will disagree, and that's fine. But it is extremely disheartening nevertheless.

It took me three plus months to write 6k, because I just couldn't find my words, but I was happy with the outcome. If you find yourself with a bit of extra time, I'd be pleased to hear what you thought; loved, hated or just indifferent.

Thanks for your time <3

Yeah, I don't really understand the prejudice against that tense/pov, either. Still, it is uncommon, and I think it's a testament to how engrossing your story was and how captivating your Draco, that I didn't think about either tense or the 2nd person narration while I was reading. (In fact, I forgot it was hypothetical--that it was a fantasy, or daydream, of Draco's--until I was jarred back to the trial at the end [much like I imagine Draco was]).

I love MADLY the idea that the future can hinge on one action; it's why I like AUs so much, I think. So reading, in this post, that your premise was 'what if Draco made a kind gesture to Harry?' made me like the fic even more.

I would so love to have part of this from Harry's pov: when he and Draco become partners in (I think?) Auror training, and he waits for Draco's triumphant performance and recognition before kissing him in the rain. Draco may be oblivious, but it seemed that Harry's pride and affection for him were developing all those months. And I'm so curious about what Draco's Patronus changed to (in addition to adoring the symbolism of a change).

One more thing: I have a huge soft spot for domestic!Draco and the fact that you framed the story with him cooking something for Harry was &hearts &hearts (even though he's still Draco so he's grumpily thinking it an 'infernal mess' and looking at his reflection in the pots).

I really appreciate it when authors take a risk, and this worked beautifully.

i love present/future tense. that one of my frustrations with hp fandom - no exploration of tenses! i think that's why i loved Merlin fics so much - about 80% used to be in present tense. haven't read any recently so can't say for now. i'm not a great commenter but it physically hurt me not to leave a review for your fic when i first read it. alas, i was on my phone and it's not great for feedback purposes. fabulous fic you. ♥

i adore The Gnostic Crane.

YAY! I was so happy -- am so happy -- you liked it!! I was thrilled when I got your requests, and then I was terrified, and then I was excited. I am SO glad you liked Draco. :D
