Morning Post of Joy!

Not in binary today, kids :P *supplies coffee and sweets and congratulatory party favours*

1.) My niece is pregnant. It was a bit of a shock, but I am so happy for her. And I suppose that makes me a great aunt more in ways than one. *g*

2.) Dragon*con next week. So excited!!! And there's a mini Merlin meet-up planned, so more yayz!

3.) Multi-fandom art recs tomorrow \0/

4.) My PS3 took a crap last week, so as a last ditch effort to fix the damn thing, I called Sony customer service. Needless to say, my faith has been restored in technical support. I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT MY PS3.

5.) Writing progress meters courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] marguerite_26!

is there some more concrete info about the merlin meet-up? the last thing i saw was the post in [livejournal.com profile] ella_bane's journal.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2010-08-24 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That's all I've heard so far, too. I'm sure Ella will figure something out by next week.

Looking forward to seeing everyone ♥

Thank you, sweetie <3

WAIT, WHAT? WHAT DID THEY SAAAAAY ABOUT YOUR PS3???

Mine got the YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH. So I ran out and bought another one. BUT I WANT MY DATA FROM THE OLD ONE!

I
NEED
IT.

But everything I read about YLOD said it's TOAST unless I send it back to Sony for $150 plus $150 to ship the 50-pound monster.

Awwww, I wanna go back to D-Con. *pouts*

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2010-08-24 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
No yellow light of death, but my PS3 would not play discs at all, and I use the Blu-ray player daily. Basically, the main menu would come on, it would media search once a disc was inserted and then nothing. I spent an hour in vain trying to fix things including a system reset. No dice.

So, I called tech support, and the guy ran me through a series of holding the on button down. After two successions, it takes you to a menu that eventually asks if you want to clean your corrupted hd. And voila! Problem solved!

I kept forgetting a PS3 is just like a computer. I'd shut it off before the red standby light came on. Stupid me!

Now, I was going to go to Gamestop and trade my paltry 40 gig hd in for the most current, which is 240 gigs. But I'm told there will be a 360 gig hd available around Christmas.

[identity profile] dysonrules.livejournal.com 2010-08-24 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
*weeps* Darn, I was hoping they had come up with a more viable solution for YLOD. I bought the 120 gig version because I've had my 80 gig for two years and never came close to filling it up. IT SUCKS that I can't play PS2 games, though. That's half my game collection kaputz. SO ANNOYING.

I think I can fix it myself, but it involves a heat gun and some specialized tools...

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2010-08-24 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheryl, I just got the best mental image of you in a welding mask wielding your tools menacingly. *g*

God, I had a complete meltdown when I thought mine was unfixable. I wanted to take it out back and pull an Office Space on it :P

What types of games do you like to play?

[identity profile] dysonrules.livejournal.com 2010-08-24 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I love to fix stuff. Power tools FTW!!! Someday I will buy a Dremel and make 50000 magic wands.

My fav game is Elder Scrolls, Oblivion. And if I lose my main character from there, you will hear my screams on every continent. I've spent MONTHS on him. I also love Motor Storm because driving fast is THE BEST THING EVER.

My son is addicted to Modern Warfare/Call of Duty and all of those various games. LUCKILY, all of his stats and trophies were saved on the Playstation Network or he would have been a sobbing wreck. Although his first worry when it crashed? "All of my online friends won't know what happened to me! D:"

Yeah, he's my kid. LOL!

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I am total pants at fixing shit. I was fully prepared to buy, at the very least, a new Blu-ray player if my PS3 could not be fixed. And I have the patience of a gnat to boot. So, if something doesn't go my way, I throw a hissy fit :P

Dude, I would totally buy a Cheryl wand! I'm asking Santa to make sure he puts a Dremel under your tree this year. *g*

I've seen Elder Scrolls, but I've never played that. I love all of the FF games, but mostly I'm a first person shooter kind of gal. I love blowing shit up. I keep waiting for them to come out with the new Doom game, and OMG, it's taking FOR-EVER. SWTF.

I think once I upgrade to a better system, I'm going to co-op online. I used to do that over an ex's house with Tournament Unreal, and it was fun getting my ass kicked.

You and your son ever play together?

[identity profile] dysonrules.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty crafty, so my wands should be awesomesauce! Can't wait. I think Santa (aka ME) will just have to put something special under my tree. :D

I love Oblivion because you can ignore the main quest as long as you like and run around doing all the side quests. OR EVEN RIDING YOUR HORSE AROUND THE COUNTRYSIDE AND PICKING FLOWERS OMG THE GRAPHICS!!! The world is stunningly gorgeous. We played this game for three months straight and whichever of us weren't playing just sat and WATCHED. It was riveting.

DOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!! OMG WHAT IS TAKING THEM SO LONG DOOM ROCKS!

The only thing we play together are the auto racing games. It's hilarious how we're better at certain tracks. He can kick my ass on most of them, but there is one track totally peppered with giant boulders and full of mud bogs and I destroy everyone on that track. I love it so much. HAHAHA I freaking love Motor Storm and they are making a CITY DURING AN EARTHQUAKE version. CAN'T FUCKING WAIT.

If I get my other PS3 fixed the boychild will be able to play Modern Warfare with his sister. I foresee mayhem.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Video gaming has come a long way from Atari 4 bit systems. And Atari was $$$ back in the day. One hundred bucks for the console, I think?

I remember I begged for this game called Adventure. It was like thirty bucks, and the graphics were horrid. Your guy was a dot and your sword was an arrow, but I thought it was the shit back then :P

And now the graphics are so unreal, it's like watching television.

Okay, yes, DOOM people, what the fucking fuck. I WANT NEW DOOOOOOOM!!! I'll be old and grey before it's out, I swear! And okay, why did they stop making Duke Nukem games? That was fun as hell, too. ARGH!

You know what game does nothing for me? Grand Theft Auto. I don't get the appeal. What do you think of that?

[identity profile] dysonrules.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I never had a gaming system until I got a PS1. Before that I always played computer games. LEMMINGS OMG! HAHA And Doom, of course. And Myst, although I had to cheat on that one because who the fuck has the patience for some of the puzzles? NOT I.

And some of those pixellated games are still AWESOME. My kids played Dungeon Hack for MONTHS and if I pulled it up I think they would still play it, even though it seems cheesy. That game was so awesome. I still have Duke Nukem!! I think it will even play on my new system.

The graphics are incredible. The kids hate watching me play Oblivion because I keep going to mountaintops and admiring the view. BUT IT'S SO GORGEOUS.

Yeah, I was never interested enough in GTA to bother. It seems like Motorstorm with blood. Meh. I just like to drive.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I think I actually bought a PS1 for Doom specifically. I'd been playing it on Super NES and was overcome with joy (ha!) when they made a disc for PS1. The graphics, of course, were infinitely better.

I will always love the classics. It's what we grew up on. Tempest. Defender. Joust. Robotron. Berzerk. And OMG Galaga ♥ ♥ ♥

What's your fave video game of all time? Can be system, computer or arcade.

Mine's definitely Mortal Kombat. I wasted so many rolls of quarters trying to perfect my game. LOL! Pity, it never translated well to the home systems. Too hard to roll out a combo :P

[identity profile] dysonrules.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHA My fav video game of all time is still Dark Forces. It was a DOS game and even though I have the disks I'm sure it would never run on any of the newer systems, which is a crying shame. I do have an ancient computer that I've held on to that I'll probably hook up one day and use for Dark Forces and Dungeon Hack. My son's first introduction to Star Wars was through that game and we had such an awesome time going through the Star Wars universe. When he finally watched the movies he was crushingly disappointed that Kyle Katarn was not in the movies, but had been invented for the game. :D

First person shooter in the Star Wars universe? FUCK YEAH.

OMFG Celldweller is playing at DragonCon and I am now painfully jealous of all going. (although the idea of that many people in one place makes me shudder)

And yay for happy muses! *hugs*

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2010-08-24 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never been to DC before. I'm told it's gigantic, and I mostly hate large crowds. This should be interesting to say the least.

BTW - I did get your PM. Keep me posted, dear!

[identity profile] slytherincesss.livejournal.com 2010-08-24 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
So far the morning is good. I'm getting all LOLtastic over the Eclipse movie, which is so very, very bad. VERY bad. LOLOL!

Congrats on becoming a great aunt! New bebes = ickle goodness.

Despite the craptasticness of the Twilight movies, I've somehow seen all three O_o

And thank you for the congrats! She's only 4 weeks along, but already I'm dying to know the sex!

YAY FOR GREATGRANDAUNT-SHIP. *nods* :)

I'm super excited about the MERLIN Ponyplay fic. Good luck with all the fics, lovely!

*flexes her GREAT AUNT-SHIP powers* *g*

Is Merlin fandom not totally perfect for ponyplay? Arthur riding Merlin, his power jousting destrier!

Wat, Birthdayfic from you?! I didn't even know! *wants it*

Go you with 1000 words! \0/ (I have yet to decide whether the meters are inspiring or random.. because do you all guys really know how much you're going to write? I feel like my first guess is generally wrong..)

And what's it you play on the PS3? :)

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Birthday Bash fic. I am UNGODLY behind on like everything. Ugh :-(

That's really a good question about the meters. I used 20k as a base to start. It may end up being shorter, or it may go over. It's so hard to tell. I just know it's going to be meaty and hopefully juicy. *flails helplessly*

On matters of the PS3, I love either first-person shooter games or action/advenure. Doom is my absolute favourite, but I still love Resident Evil and Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy. And um, Resistance: Fall of Man. Borderlands. That sort of schtuff. What about you?

[identity profile] mijeli.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I struggled with that BDB fic, myself - deadlines are not the friend :/ But that was a pretty easy-going fest from the start, so a late post will be awesome as well.

When I started reading fanfic, I thought 20K was sort of a minimum for a really "good" (=epic development) fic. Needless to say, many many shorter fics proved me wrong! But still, most of the time writing H/D takes up many words for me..I want to express the complexity.

meaty and hopefully juicy
Ahaha xD Very literally? Sounds intriguing, if I may say so, and I hope one of the juices is blood!

Oh to be honest, I don't own a PS3 myself, the only video games I played were for PC (and it weren't many- the Sims, Harry Potter, Silent Hill and Heroes of Might and Magic IV is all I can think of ;)) I just recently realised what a badass lady you are, and I was curious :)
