Busy offline existence is busy! I still have a metric buttload of Charlie recs to link and two discussions to type up. Coming soon, I promise! In the meantime, I humbly offer these. But first...

Local girl makes good! Our lovely, [livejournal.com profile] libby_drew's 'State of Mind' is available in paperback and on e-book for your reading pleasures. Personally, I prefer paperbacks and will be ordering mine shortly. Congratulations, dear ♥

And now for two recs...

[Le Fic]

Shattered - Harry/Draco [NC-17] by [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic.

Let me just preface this by saying that Femme's fics are like slipping into warm baths. They're relaxing, they're refreshing, and I always step out of them a better person.

This was Femme's [livejournal.com profile] hp_kinkfest contribution, and truth be told, when I first saw the prompt that inspired this fic, my eyebrow rose in a very Vulcanesque manner. I can't really imagine clumsiness being considered a kink, nor do I find the idea of supreme klutziness hot in the extreme, but I love what Femme's done with this. Once again proving that anything's possible in the hands of a very capable writer.

I'm very particular about the careers people choose to give Draco. And you'll notice I said careers and not jobs. Most of the time, I'm willing to entertain a broad spectrum of possibilities, but I do see Draco prospering more as his own boss. In 'Shattered' Draco's an artist, and something that affords him creativity as well as prestige is easily believable to me. I also love how Femme has Draco use his talents as an outlet to bleed himself of the pain of the war, too. In fact, the whole concept of 'shattered' really transcends what you initially perceive as the base.

Harry is not without his own troubles. He's been stricken by a curse that almost makes him a danger to be around. And when Draco's favourite medium just happens to be glass, you understand the fragility of the situation. I might add that the Snape/Black shipper in me wants to include hotness alongside fragility, because broken glass should always be a vehicle for antagonistic sex.

Despite its sharp edges and dark undertones, the hope and healing provide a satisfying cushion. Loved this!

[L'Art]

Despair - Snape/Narcissa [WS] by Mystery Artist.

Yeah, it's worksafe, but it's hot like mother******* burning. Snape fans, don't walk, run over.

And you know what gobsmacks me about both these treasures? The recipients still haven't commented on them yet. WTF, fandom, WTF.

Go and leave some ♥ for all involved.

Enjoy all!

i.e.; lack of recipient response; it does make you wonder, doesn't it? 'Shattered' is just f-ing brilliant, and that art is heartbreakingly lovely. I'm sorry, but in my book? That's just bloody rude, and though it sort of grieves me to say it, I'm seeing a lot of that around here recently. People work hard; even when it isn't as amazing as this story and this art, they deserve to have their efforts recognized by the people that the work was intended for. If you sign up for a fest, the least you can do is keep track of it and know when your gift is posted.

Yes, yes and more yes. I mean, isn't this like the worst violation of wtfery? I just do. not. get. how you could sign up for a fest and then fucker off and not pay attention. This totally escapes me. I mean, I know real life tends to creep up on us at the most inopportune times, but you can't make the occasional drive-by to check?

Two Christmases ago, I did Snapely Holidays, and my recipient took almost THREE WEEKS to leave a comment on my fic to her. I WAS FURIOUS. I wrote Snaco for someone at Smutmas one year, and the recip never even saw her fic. She'd completely dropped off the face of the earth. Fandom, you vex me sometimes. I should do a discussion on this one day. Thanks for the insight, hon ♥

Once again proving that anything's possible in the hands of a very capable writer.

This times ten. I have my preferences and squicks, but seriously, I will read and be impressed by literally anything -- any pairing, any kink or squick, any plot -- if it's well-written enough.

I'm about there, too. Hell, I've even recced mpreg and Snape/Hagrid (both of which are sooo not my cuppa), if you can believe that. Only thing I won't touch with a ten foot pole is scat. I don't care how well it's written, it's ick to the nth degree :P

What did you think of that Snape/Narcissa art?

What did you think of that Snape/Narcissa art?

I thought the atmosphere and Snape were fabulous; Narcissa looks a little too pin-up-like for me, but I still find it a gorgeous piece.

It's interesting about scat. I always list it as one of my squicks, but I honestly can't recall ever seeing a story containing it. But if I did see one, I'd probably read it, just to see how it might be done.

What I find lately is that it's not plot kinks or squicks that make me decide not to read a given story. It's particular pairings or characters, ones that I just can't muster up much interest in. As usual, if it's something written by one of the writers by whom I'd read anything, even their tax returns, then pairing/character isn't an issue. Or if a particular rec catches my eye. Or if I've made a pact with myself to read every in a particular fest. But there's just so much to read, and so little time, that there are some characters that are always going to be on the bottom of my list. It's not any "Character X is 'better' than Character Y" thing -- just personal preference.
