[Fic]
Rapture [NC-17] by
mia_ugly.
Early on in the Games, I had exchanged emails with
joanwilder. We'd been discussing favourites when Joan mentioned Mia's fic. I made a mental note to check it out when it was posted.
Mia's fic was also mentioned during an IM conversation with
accioslash and by then I was getting a bit antsy. I had just finished 'Anachronism' and was looking for something long and plotty and smutty to read. And lo, the Angel of the Porn delivered. In spades.
I was immediately taken with Rapture's summary (which is both telling and not) and tucked in. With an entire place setting's silverware, I might add. Time travel fics give me great joy in the comfort food sense.
In Rapture, Harry is given an anomalous Time-Turner for his birthday by a mysterious stranger. It's old, it's clunky and oddly inoperative. That is, until it comes alive.
Harry travels back in time to the mid-80's where he meets Snape for the first time. And Snape is absolutely glorious out of his element at Hogwarts; not quite the imposing figure he cuts in a classroom. He's everything I expect from a young, awkward, socially inept Snape, and I am absolutely in love at this point. IN. LOVE.
Throughout the course of the fic, Harry travels back several times and each visit is lovelier than the last. I love Mia's Snape so much, because he's just so human. And that really is an accomplishment to show that vulnerability and keep him in character. And the sex is lovemaking disguised as sex disguised as lovemaking and fuck IDEK, it's just so very fucking hot. Harry riding Snape trips my trigger to an unfathomable degree.
As always, with my reviews, I hesitate to give much away. But know this; Rapture is a beautiful, passionate, raw, eager, frantic, earthy read. And when I'm inadvertently pulled back into the here and now with Harry, my hearts aches just as his does. I read this at work (which was probably not the wisest of places), and misted up on more than a few occasions. I claimed allergies at first, but then the scene with Harry and Dumbledore almost undid me, and that's when I considered dropping the Drug Compendium (the size of two War and Peace) on my foot to explain my tears. Don't look at me that way :P
My only complaint with Mia's fic is the ending. Which is not to say it's a bad ending, because it's not. It's just not the ending I'd imagined. If you're worried about unhappy endings, though, fear not. There are no nasty surprises, and the closing lines lightened this girl's black heart to…a lovely shade of grey. *G*
