[Le Fic]

Sine Qua Non [PG-13] by

This is a no-frills fic. It reminds me of a plain-papered gift surrounded by shiny boxes. And immediately, I'm drawn to the plain-papered gift and wanting to shake it to judge its contents. I've always been more concerned with what's inside, because that's what counts, yes?

In a fandom where common clichés can either disappoint or dazzle, Dracofiend expertly manages the latter with virtuous voyeurism.

Sine Qua Non is polished to a military spit-shine. There's neither a wrinkle to smooth nor a hair to tuck back. Snape's voice is pitch-perfect and Harry is so wonderfully and annoyingly Harry, I'd swear these were DF's characters.

Take care, for this is more than a bit angsty, (I love a too-proud-to-~~beg~~ask-Snape, don't you?), but there's a very satisfying pay-off that left me more than a bit wrung out. Don't want to spoil much more, but I'll leave you all, dear readers, with this: It takes a lot to melt my brain, but it takes a fuck of a lot more to melt my heart. There goes my reputation for being a hardass :-P STFUDJ

Connecting the Dotty [PG-14] by

I wasn't sure if this fic would be my cuppa, but as it turns out, it is undoubtedly one of my favourites so far. This is not an easy read, but a necessary one I think. In Connecting the Dotty, Snape and Harry are well into their golden years, which I had immediately and wrongfully thought unsexy. Which just goes to show, the incredible talent we have in fandom and why after six years I'm still around.

This is a heart-warming, and more importantly, honest look into the lives of two men who have weathered the storms of togetherness despite the inevitable aches of growing old. I cried. I laughed. I frowned. I smiled. And I fell out of my fucking chair when Snape told Harry that he was feeling frisky and not to dawdle, because he didn't know how long it would last. This is really a lovely fic, something I've never seen done before, and I left out a bit wiser and a bit richer because I took a leap of faith.

To be fair, I should mention there is a bit of offscreen Mpreg. I know, I know, where is TMP and what have you done with her, right? I won't lie. I did have to shield my eyes during the two mentions. Mpreg and I are never going to be friends, and we've made our peace with that. In my comment to the author, I question her reasoning, and she unfailingly supplies her motivations, and damn if I can't disagree. Igtow has me here, and all I can say is 'Bless fandom, man, bless fucking fandom.'
