Fic

Obsidian, Smoothed into Knots - Lucius/Albus Severus, Implied Draco/Albus Severus [NC-17] by Mystery Author.

God, one of these days, I'll be done with Lucius Malfoy and actually mean it. He seems to be a childhood toy I've outgrown, but just can't seem to part with for sentimental reasons. However, if Lucius continues to be written in such delicious ways, I may rethink my interest yet.

As I stated in my review, this is a very powerful piece of writing. I am strongly reminded of the old school Yahoo group 'Beloved Enemies' when writing a well-characterised Lucius actually meant something. Yeah, I know, enough lamenting about 2005.

In Obsidian, Albus is young and eager to prove himself as a competent Auror. He's working with Draco Malfoy and doing a bit of undercover that seemingly blurs the line of professionalism. Albus makes a rather damning comment about playing the whore for twenty minutes, and that's really the push that sends this set-up of dominoes falling.

As much as this fic is a construction, it is essentially a deconstruction. Of hearts. Of souls. And of familial bonds. No one and nothing is left unscathed, unscarred.

This really is a killer fic, and much as I want to gush, I want others to read this as I have, largely unspoiled. I will leave you all with this, though: It is not uncommon for an author to leave me reeling, to leave my heart upon the floor. It is, however, something else entirely for me not to want to reclaim that heart. Everything is perfect and as it should be.

OMG YOUR ICON. i kept watching it to make sure there really was a glimpse of a peen somewhere there, and not just my eyes playing tricks on me :P

as for the crossgen-ruining-fics, here is a post (http://aldehyde.livejournal.com/269145.html) about the one that caused the most impact. the author is actually on my flist and i happen to like her work in general, but i couldn't come to terms with this particular story. however, my post generated a lot of interesting discussion in the comments so i'm happy about that :D

Are you not reading HP fic anymore, dear?

I know you've been devouring Trek fic, so I'm going to self-pimp myself and mention the Kirk/McCoy fic I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] inell.

Oh, I'm definitely still reading HP fic, just being a bit choosier about pairings and such since I have so much else to read too. :-)

Oof, how did I miss your fic? I'll track it down tonight, thanks!

Good lord! Upon first glance the pairing didn't faze me, but then I read on and realized it was *Albus Severus!* Isn't he young enough to be Lucius' grandchild? I guess in the wizarding world, what with long life etc, such things don't really make a difference. :p

*goes off to read*

Yes, yes he is old enough to be Al's grandfather. He is Scorpius's grandfather after all. It's a great story, though, so I hope you give it a chance :-)

WOW. OK, I read it and was truly amazed- thanks for the rec! Getting back into fandom is always such a shock, because I always wonder at the perversity of it all, but when it is so intelligently written....*wipes brow* I am quite speechless!
