Your list is for all fests in 2009, those currently running as well as those finished or yet to come, isn't it?

There are [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen and [livejournal.com profile] hd_worldcup. And as far as I know, [livejournal.com profile] hp_darkfest will be running again in 2009, too.

I took the 2009 part out of the post header, partly because I think the SBB starts in January '10. The first two fests have wrapped up a while ago, so I really see no need to mention them. I forgot [livejournal.com profile] hp_darkfest, so I will definitely add that. Thanks!

Oh God, where to start? There are so many fests posting right now that I almost broke down and cried trying to do [livejournal.com profile] quibbler_report the past two days. [livejournal.com profile] hp_emofest, [livejournal.com profile] hp_porninthesun, [livejournal.com profile] lm_hgficxchange, [livejournal.com profile] pphpficexchange, and [livejournal.com profile] rarepair_shorts, off the top of my head without even going back to check them all. :/

handy list, though!

edit: *goes back to check* [livejournal.com profile] rd_challenge, [livejournal.com profile] malfoy_weasley, [livejournal.com profile] hp_summersmut, Big Bang at [livejournal.com profile] lupin_snape is in art stage now, [livejournal.com profile] weasley_fest, [livejournal.com profile] ginnybigbang, [livejournal.com profile] hermionebigbang, [livejournal.com profile] potter_games, [livejournal.com profile] ronpansy_fest, [livejournal.com profile] founders_gifts, [livejournal.com profile] hghpficexchange, [livejournal.com profile] smrw_ficafest...

*gives up* :)

Nah, I enjoy it or I wouldn't bother, but some days, yes, there are many millions of posts to go through. Fortunately, everyone at the fests going on right now seems to be very gracious. Occasionally we get fest mods and participants who like to ream us out for "ignoring" the fic/art at their fests. :( Little do they know, it seems, that we do our very best, but invariably news- and recsletter editors are only human. *cues tiny violin* :)

edit: oh, and sorry, I misrepresented: only the first batch I listed are posting right now; the others are coming up or will start in the fall, just if Penny's interested in listing them. :)

damn.

and you have to read *everything*?

Date: 2009-06-22 01:50 am (UTC)
From: [personal profile] snegurochka_lee
We try to. :/ And those are just the fests. People also post stuff not-anon at their journals and comms all the time. On average, I'll have 20-30 tabs open to read on a recsletter day, to try to decide on 2-6 or so of them to rec. And we only do rarepairs and gen!

This is why, on occasion, we have been known to make sadfaces when various well-meaning fandom souls announce, "I'm creating a new fest for X!!!" :/ But, like I said above, I generally don't mind, or I wouldn't do it. :)

Date: 2009-06-22 01:57 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] spacefragments.livejournal.com
i assume you don't have to read all of them from beginning to end since in most cases you can tell the quality of the fic from skimming over a few paragraphs, but still, that's a *lot.*

i start making annoyed faces if i have to read more than *five* mid-length fics on recsletter day, and that's only for one pairing. 8] i don't know how you quibbler folks manage, esp. if it's a pairing/character you don't have even the slightest bit of interest in. :p

From: [personal profile] snegurochka_lee
Sometimes we skim 40K masterpieces, yes, although even in one-shots, something that starts out promising has been known to turn to pod-characters halfway through. :/

We have to be pretty open to any character or pairing to do the job, that's for certain. :) We had one kind soul for awhile who just couldn't read any Snapefic objectively, by her own admission. Heh. That's a tough one to get around in this fandom...

Dayum, Lee. Ahahaha

If you don't mind, I think I'll link to this post with an ETA. I'm with the others, I don't know how you manage to watch all these comms, let alone find good things to read.

Date: 2009-06-24 01:26 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] snegurochka_lee
Sure. I think anyone who wants to start a new comm or fest should be forced to look at our watcher list for a day first. :/

Oh, finding good stuff to read isn't usually the problem. It's finding too many! It's why enticing headers and a good opening sequence are key, though, if you want your fic noticed. We only need half a reason to keep scrolling, when there are 16 other stories to glance at just before lunch. ;)
