Last of the [livejournal.com profile] hp_springsmut Recs!

Just in before the reveal!

[fic] There's Something About A Malfoy - Harry/Scorpius, Charlie/Draco [NC-17] by Mystery Author.

I almost didn't read this story. I did more than my share of drive-bys before committing to this yesterday. Unfortunately, I had been spoiled by the first commenter who unwittingly shared a bit of telling concrit. You see, this story has a mostly gay universe, and that's really not my cuppa. I could go into a million reasons why, but I didn't want that to be the focus of this post. This is a rec, and as such, it should be just that. Truth be told, I'm sorry I let that person's remark cloud my judgement, because this really is a fantastic story.

This was such a fun and sexy read that I devoured this in one fell swoop. And okay, I guess another reason why I had passed this up initially was the word count. But it's an amazingly fast 27k read. Some stories of this size have slow sections, but I was completely entranced throughout. This is the kind of story I relish; fun, adventurous plot, promising relationships and hot smut. Did I say hot? I meant SCORCHING. There's enough burning here to satisfy a Viking send-off.

The plot did not let me down either. Set in the Forbidden Forest, it involves the unexplained deaths of magical creatures and Harry, Scorpius, Charlie and Draco are quickly set to the task of unravelling the mystery. The cooperation amongst such an unlikely quartet is believable and quite enjoyable. I also liked that Harry wrestled somewhat with the moral dilemma of courting Scorpius, because that's not always present in cross-gen stories involving this pairing. And honestly, I came for the Harry/Scorpius and left all warm and fuzzy over the Charlie/Draco. How's that for a switch? *G*

All in all, a very satisfying read. There are so many wonderful lines in this that I lost count. And I don't think I ever left a story liking Charlie as much as I did here. I know that 27k is long and time intensive, but I promise you won't leave disappointed.

Hot like burning. And I love the artist's interpretations of the Brothers Weasley.

Enjoy all :-)

Looks like you forgot to close an HTML tag somewhere. :-)

Thanks! It's been fixed. LJ's running slooow.

I did the same thing, read it for Harry/Scorpius, but adored Charlie/Draco even more.

I loved that writer's Charlie to bits!

That story's great, isn't it? Not the sort of pairings I'd ever imagine enjoying, but it was all so wittily done that I found it a really engrossing read. And the sex! I'm really not a big smut fan, but I thought it was brilliantly done. I'm almost tempted to go back and take notes on how to write sex. *g*

And yeah, I thought that art was a fab way to end the fest!

I enjoyed it muchly. I just wish the first commenter wouldn't have spoiled some aspects for me. Because of them, I didn't read the story until yesterday. A pity, that.

Reveals are up today, yes? I'm curious to know who wrote it.

Again, thank you so much. This rec was such fun to read and made me so happy.

I was so concerned after the first comment that many people would drive by, and frustrated not to be able to address it. I am fine with concrit, but it is hard to get it as the first comment at an anonymous fest on such a long story, even although the rest of her comment was very enthusiastic. So, again thank you for giving it a chance even although you knew there was an element that is not really your thing.

I am thrilled that it moved quickly for you. I have never written anything this long before. I am also thrilled that you liked the smut. I was concerned it might be overly romantic for some, so I am glad it worked.

The plot was fun to imagine, and challenging to write, so thank you for saying that you enjoyed it. I thought Harry would agonize about the age difference and the working relationship. And then it was fun to torture him a bit more with the Albus story line and the one-off with Charlie.

Thank you for this wonderful, wonderful rec!! :)

I had someone leave a discouraging comment on my last Snarry Games fic, and I was wishing they would have just sent me their concerns over email. Unfortunately, though, in an anonymous exchange that's not an option. But I could definitely sympathise with your frustration. Lee's pretty convincing, however, and she very rarely steers me wrong. I just ADORED Something, and I'm really looking forward to your Blackout fic ♥
