So, like I finally got my lazy arse in gear and posted this. And if you're wondering why this is here and not there, it's because the H/D shippers on my flist are adamant about remaining with LJ :P
The Introduction
Greetings, and welcome to the Interactive Harry/Draco Fan Artist Appreciation Discussion. Having been in fandom for close to five years, I've encountered many brilliant artists, some of them staunch Harry/Draco OTPers, some of them casual shippers.
I've been a keen reccer for probably half of my five years out of admiration and appreciation and have wanted to comprise a sharable recs list for Harry/Draco fans. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to share their favourite Harry/Draco art links and discuss aesthetics. And artists, please feel free to share in your own works. I'm sure I've missed many beautiful pieces along the way.
Below are just a fraction of the pieces I've found memorable. This list is in no way complete and will probably grow to epic proportions. The pieces are in no particular order either. As much as I'd love to name all of the wonderful artists who have moved me with their Harry/Draco art, I couldn't possibly remember everyone's name without excluding someone whose work has probably brightened fandom and life considerably. Chances are, though, if I've recced an artist's work at one time or another, I'm most definitely a fan. And if I haven't done so, it's just because we haven't met yet. Fans and fan artists, why not come and acquaint yourselves here?
In closing, please remember to respect all artists' wishes concerning usage. I cannot stress the importance of both kindness and consideration. Thanks and enjoy the thread!
Mistletoe and Quill [WS] by
naadi.
This is my absolute favourite piece of Naadi's art. When this was first posted, I kept coming back to her journal to stare at this. I adore period pieces, and this has such a Victorian look about it. Draco is utterly gorgeous in this. And no, I'm not swayed at all by the lace at his wrists and throat. *sweatdrop*
The Fall [NWS] by
lillithium.
[Last illustration in the colour section.]
Lils makes watercolouring look easy. I mean, seriously, I defy you to find me another artist who makes teh pretteh with such a difficult medium. Christ, I can't even watercolour using a 'Paint By Numbers' book :P
This picture takes my breath away, but you know what really nails it for me? The fricken apple. Draco/apple (grannysmith in particular) is now canon for me because of 'The Fall.'
Contrast [NWS] by
cluegirl.
I can never get enough boy snoggage, and Clue really brings it here. I sometimes bitch about b & w artses looking unfinished, but nooo, not here. This is perfect as is - heart palpitation and sigh inducingly so.
Radiance [NWS] by
djinniyah.
I believe this was my introduction to Jinn's art. I still have the icon set
marksykins made from this series. This is just fabulous, and everything Jinn's done thereafter has just been fabulouser and fabulouser. Her work is just so delicate and poetic. I could literally lose myself in anything she does.
Falling [WS] by
_hibiscus.
Hibi is old skool H/D, and the classics hold a very special place in my heart. I have this iconised as well. I love her seasonal themes. I'm a sucker for boys in scarves n' hats. Another artist whose style is both unique and refreshing. The softness of her characters makes my tum tum all a-flutter.
The King of Wands [WS] by
artisticentropy/
shi_ryuu.
Elegant. Lush. Powerful. Bewitching. Tempestuous. These are the first five words that pop into my head when I look at this. The sheer amount of talent astounds me.
Fiendfyre Rescue [WS] by
sherant.
You know what I love most about Sherant's H/D art? Her red colour schemes. Do you remember when you went to a restaurant as a child, and they gave you two frickin crayons with the kiddie menu? Wee Sherant probably said 'Fuck this - I don't need salmon and shartruce when I have red. Yeah, I'll make magic with red.'
And she does. This is one of my favourites of hers, because it's such a pivotal moment for Harry and Draco, and I think she captured it beautifully.
My Little Pony [NWS] by
red_rahl.
[Totally flocked unfortunately. Rahlsy, do you have an alternate link?]
Okay, ponyplay? TOTAL. BULLETPROOF. KINK. And Draco with a bridle and horsehair phallus - need I say more? One, if not the, sexiest Harry/Draco pieces.
From chibis to pervy kink to sweetness n' love, Rahl's H/D art makes me all happy in the pants. Fan-fucking-tastic soloing or collabing with Myrafur.
In the Rain [WS] by
glockgal.
GG is one of my favourite all time artists. She's exceptionally gifted with all pairings, but I have a special fondness for her Harry/Draco pieces. This particular piece is my favourite, because nothing warms the cockles of my black lil' heart more thantrysts closeness in the rain. It really conveys that 'we can weather the storm together' feel to me.
The Ecstasies of Flying, Floating and Falling [NWS] by
gold_loewin.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then each frame of this series is worth ten thousand. Loe's told such a compelling story in ten vignettes. Love and heartbreak and a world shattered through a pane of glass. This series makes me all goosepimply.
Harry and Draco Aurors [WS] by
buttfacemakani.
[Fourth one down in the Commissions section.]
Makani is awesome to the nth degree. Seriously, if Eris had a golden apple stamped 'Art Goddess', she'd snub the other three and bestow the apple onto Makani.
Hands down, this is the definitive Auror pic. Pristine Draco makes me swoon like a swooning thing, and rumpled Harry makes me grin from ear to ear.
The Fine Line Between Love and Hate [WS] by
lizardspots.
[Second to last in the H/D section.]
Oh, Lizard, is there anything you can't do? This picture - pretty much sums up my thoughts on Harry and Draco. Kill me. Kiss me. Hate me. Love me. Pre-fuck tussles are pretty much the gospel on toe-curling sex. Yeah.

Date: 2008-08-22 02:11 am (UTC)The H/D fanart I've done doesn't really compare to these. I have that one for the worldcup, and then the illustrations I did for Anna Fugazzi's bond.
I guess I'm pretty much an unknown.

Date: 2008-08-22 02:52 am (UTC)For those that have been around fandom along time this seems to happen in opening lists. The more established artist or authors are rec'd. I see this all of the time with author recs.

Pst. You know Granny Smith apples are green, not red, right? I've only seen him with those in Nishi's TVJ :). And that was only because she's hopelessly addicted to the things :D.
Wonderful list of pictures. I look forward to going through and enjoying them properly when I have more time - I know a fair few of these, but some, I'm not so sure from the titles! Yay for potentially new pictures :).

Date: 2008-08-23 08:11 am (UTC)Honestly, I know I've got a ways to go in terms of drawing so I'm very honored (and flustered) to be among such fantastic artists, who put me to shame! I deeply admire the ones I'm familiar with on your list, especially Lizardspots, Lillithium, ButtfaceMakani and Sherant. *dies* Someday I hope to reach even a third of that level!
And because you asked, I've made an alternate link to my Pony Play picture that I'll leave up for a bit over here (http://red-rahl.insanejournal.com/1088.html).
I'm afraid I don't really have links to artwork by other people I've really enjoyed because a lot of the ones I added to memories seem to have gone missing and I keep forgetting to add the new ones I come across. !_!
In terms of aesthetics, I love Draco with a pointy chin and I must say that after HD Worldcup, I grew rather fond of H/D as forty-year-old men, even if Draco had that damn receding hairline.

Date: 2008-09-03 11:07 pm (UTC)Try not to compare yourself with anyone. It's counter-productive. You are unique in your own way, and that's what makes your art special to fandom. *hearts*
