The Sci-fi Channel Musings

I got roped into watching the Sci-fi channel last night...

Battlestar Galactica has not improved. Somebody please tell me what the FUCK is up with the word 'frack?' I thought I was going to piss my pants I was laughing so hard. Who writes the fucking dialogue for this show? And OMG -- Michelle Forbes? I loved her when she was Ensign Ro Laren on ST:NG, and now this? Ugh :P

I've always liked Stargate. If I wasn't so involved in Lost, I may actually have given SG:A a go. Not to write fic or anything. Just to watch. But to you SG:A fans -- can any of you rec me any NC-17 Wraith fics?

--P

Frack actually comes from the original BSG :p I guess they decided to stay true to the universe created back then.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Coming from someone that used to watch the show religiously, I don't ever recall Hatch or Benedict using the word 'frack.'

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
They did. Benedict, all the time.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
So let me see if I have this right. They fucking changed Starbuck's sex. And they left in the word 'frack?'

I think I hate this show even more now :P

[identity profile] midnighta.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
They fucking changed Starbuck's sex

The big reason I have no interest in seeing this version :)

[identity profile] midnighta.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? Interesting. I've only seen a couple episodes...I was just told this by a friend and it seemed all the fanfiction I read about the original show used that word. Odd.

It could be like that Sherlock Holmes phrase "elementary, my dear Watson"...something a lot of people believe is canon but really isn't?

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It just sounds so goddamn stupid.

[identity profile] schmoo999.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well..my sister in law loves that show...Battlestar..and I do make fun of it just to bother her to get back for the years of snide remarks regarding my love of comics..fantasy..and such.

It is ok. Not great and frack is there curse word I guess? I have watched once or twice.
*shrug*

I love my cheesy reality shows and OMG...Lost...nothing can beat Lost.
:)

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto on Lost. Lost is fantabulous, man :-)

[identity profile] schmoo999.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
If the writers can keep up the storyline the way they have Lost it is going to be one of the best in TVdom ever...imo.

I read somewhere they have the story all plotted out for six years.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Six years? No shit. That's cool as hell.

[identity profile] mereol.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved Ro Laren; sadly, am so out of the loop on Lost.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
So did I! I need a Ro Laren icon, man :P

[identity profile] mereol.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
What is Lost? Is it reality or drama?

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Drama. Buy the DVD if you can. You will not be sorry.

[identity profile] huntress1013.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. You are the first person I know who is not nuts about the new Galactica. I wouldn't know because the shoe isn't shown yet over here. What exactly don't you like about the show?

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
You couldn't possibly have that much time on your hands :P

[identity profile] huntress1013.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well I have heard that the whole story is different because it is darker and the Cylons are bit like "The Return of the Body Snatchers meets Blade Runner" and that Starbucks is now a woman and very different from the original Starbucks. That's about it. Most people like the grittier and darker theme and I never mind that, so enlighten me what else is different or wrong :g:

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes my heart fuzzy and happy to find someone on my Flist who doesn't like the new BSG. I can't stand it, and not just because I'm such a softie for the original.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I hate when they tinker with the classics, man.

[identity profile] aliciamasters.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I tried REALLY hard to make it through the BSG mini-series. I really did. But two hours in, I wanted to blind myself so I had an excuse not to watch any more, and I was begging the Cylons on TV to just kill everyone.

I don't know why I can't get into it: I love sci-fi. It just moves so slowly for me. I don't want to read the manual; I just want the gorram thing to work.

I'm sorry to all the people who love this show; I know there must be something appealing about it. I'd still rather poke out my eyes than put in the second disk.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
And speaking of the Cylons...

It was bad enough when they fucked with Starbuck's gender, but did they have to un-cheese the Cylons? I happened to like the little red dot, kthnxbai.

Keep your eyes. Watch Lost :-)

[identity profile] velleitas.livejournal.com 2005-09-25 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ensign Ro! I loved her! *such a TNG geek*

I tried to watch BSG earlier and ew. But a lot of the stuff on the Sci-fi channel screams cheese! I really used to like Stargate though! :)

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
You're not kidding with the screams cheese. I mean, c'mon -- Mansquito?

Another Ro fan! Yay! What did you think about her defecting to the Maquis?

[identity profile] alexajones22.livejournal.com 2005-09-25 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
The thing with frak, much like "frell" on Farscape, is a way of being able to say fuck without getting censored. And, as others have noted, a homage to the original.

So yeah, I won't disagree that it's an insanely dumb word and I wish people could say fuck on TV without getting all up in a tizzy about it, but that's really the purpose of inventing silly words such as those. It's also a nice "screw you!" to censors because it's so obvious what the word means but because it doesn't have the same letters and pronunciation, it's okay, which basically pokes fun at the ratings system.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Sci-fi's a cable channel. Don't understand why they can't say 'fuck.'

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/rantipole_/ 2005-09-25 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Somebody please tell me what the FUCK is up with the word 'frack?'
Oh jesus.
Ow. Ow. Ow!

I mean, sheesh, I'm embarrassed for this country, because twenty years from now, people all over the world will still be watching reruns of that show, just because it was once on American TV.

Not that the 70's version was any better. Ack!
*thinks about crawling under the desk to hide now* Because, man, if I ever travel to Asia, will people look at me and think of that show? (Ack!)

*cough*
Right. (!)
Really I just stopped by to say "hello" because I haven't commented on your journal since you friended me!
*hangs head in shame*

And: Hey! You're from Detroit! I used to live near there: And right before I moved away, a friend of mine took me to Windsor (in a LIMO!) to check out the strip bars... because, full monty, right?
Woo! *blushes*
(and the LIMO!) Woo!
(and champagne!) Woo!
(what a night that was...) *smiling*

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Full monty, yes, yes!

Welcome to my journal! Enjoy your stay :-)

[identity profile] athenakt.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, frack. If I remember correctly, there was another curse used as well: felgercarb. Hee!

I haven't watched the new BSG series, but I heard from someone that the characters aren't the same actual people, but that certain names have become more like titles or standard nicknames given to pilots, etc, and that the setting is in the future.

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Felgercarb? Dear Lord, I hate censorship.
