[livejournal.com profile] wizard_trauma is a new community modded by [livejournal.com profile] florahart and [livejournal.com profile] inell dealing with real issues (illnesses, deaths, abuse etc) in the wizarding world.

I wasn't too sure about this at first, but the more I think about it, the more I think it's a great idea. It's definitely worth checking out.

I think for me the appeal is the realism. Far too many people rely on magic as a crutch. It just shouldn't be a cure-all for everything.

Thanks for the pimp, hon! I'm glad you think it's an interesting idea. How are you? Nevermind! I'll see if you're on YM since I didn't look earlier *grin*

It certainly is a bit of realism, yeah. So long as we keep the good and the bad within sight, it's realism. I'll certainly check it out.

Also, your icon is gorgeous, dear. It, uh...has lovely colors.

Part of the reason that JKR's Wizardiung World is so fucked is that they do rely on magic for everything, and magic is the be all and end all of everyone's existence. arts, humanities, culture- civilization, in other words- are shadows, wisps of Muggle artifact that wizards copy.

But I will check it out anyways :)

The community has lots of potential, I promise.

That's an interesting observation. I sort of wonder if the pure blood wizards rely too much on magic and they're jealous of what Muggles have accomplished without it. After all, since they rely on magic so much, they don't have to try to advance anything and they therefore stagnate.

Some of the best stories I've read involve less magic and more reality. I haven't checked out the community yet and I'm not pimping it--I'm not associated with it in any way. Just think that fewer magical solutions to every problem make for more interesting reading.

I don't think that it is just a pureblood response- I think that it is a response of living in that world ghettoised. They make cars fly, yet cannot understand a internal combustion engine. It's weird.

Agreed. And Mr. Weasley's greatest wish (or however it's worded), to know how airplanes stay up. They told us that stuff in high school physics. I mostly don't remember, but I've still got the general idea. You'd think he could go to a Muggle bookshop or library or something. It's not that hard to figure out.

Have gone and looked at the community: I joined it. Thanks for the heads up. It looks like a good place for better-researched stories, as well as being a place where I can put my first HP story, when I've done the re-write that I want to do.
