Sing a Mad Rebellion [NC-17] by
femmequixotic.
Admittedly, I'm not keen on political dramas. Rarely do they hold my interest. But in asking myself if Femme had ever disappointed me before, the answer came swiftly and soundly;
No.
Sing a Mad Rebellion has an eye-opening beginning. Hearts pound. Bullets fly. And tempers stoke. In the end, Teddy's left cradling Victoire before he's hauled off to the horrors of Nemworth prison and hope is little more than a four-letter word for the patriots of the ELA.
Enter Harry, persona non grata and thorn in just about every right-wing politician's side. The former wunderkind has gone from messiah to pariah in about half the time it takes for a Firebolt to go from 0-60. A modern-day witch-hunt has plagued wizardkind, and Harry's the last of the vocal left-centre activists trying to right a series of wrongs that led his people down the path of magical oppression.
Femme does an AMAZING job at creating a dystophic world. A world that breeds chaotic good in the form of the ELA (also cleverly referred to as ELF) with Snape as its revered leader. Though, Snape is not wholly untouchable. He's loved and lost equally, and he's looking for a strong outcast to help fight as well as grief-fuck. Hey, this is Snape we are talking about, and Femme's Snape is a sexy salt-and-pepper haired bastard. Need I say more?
The supporting cast is OUTSTANDING. Seriously, nine times out of ten, I could give a fuck about minor characters, but Femme makes me care about Anthony Goldstein and Justin Finch-Fletchley and yes, Gods, even Zacharias Smith. Pansy Parkinson is a force to be reckoned with as Snape's second-in-command and Hermione's just as staunch in her stance for freedom as ever. Christ, even Astoria had me smiling. Hand meet forehead.
I was riveted from start to finish, and honestly if I had a pair, I'd wager them you would be, too. A fitting finish to the fest's finale.Try saying that fast five times.
