I don't think I'd like downright unpleasant sex in a fic, but awkwardness and uncertainty, especially if the characters are inexperienced, makes it easier to identify with the characters for me.
S' funny you should mention it, pd_darragh and I were just discussing some awkward elements we wanted to work into the Oliver/Percy fic we're working on.
