Thank you. The only reason I can give for the "caring more about our pets" thing is that I'd venture to say few of us know this woman personally. But yes, we can appreciate this case isn't a happy one, and no matter what happens, someone's going to end up emotionally hurt. I'd say that's life, but I seriously doubt anyone needs to be reminded of that.
