Yeah, I've never seen it used for a fic. I only use it for an excuse when people ask me why I didn't comment on their lj rants about how everything sucks.

Length is not off-putting, but WIPness can be. Like I'm one to talk. But sometimes you just want to be able to sit and read it all you know? Like waiting for the next installment of the source material isn't bad enough torture.
