Actually I read that. Your ideas were well-thought out (as were the comments), so much so that I found I didn't have anything to add :-)
Unlike you, I don't have any knowledge about 'modern-day' vampirism (e.g. Buffy, Blade) but I enjoyed Stroker's Dracula when I read it a few years ago, as well as earlier allusions to the theme from various horror short stories. Nor do I have a passion for the subject that some many other people do. I guess my aim in writing Aqua was to come up with a plausible plot and write it to its logical conclusion. I've read some bad HP vampire stories in the past, and didn't want to make the same mistakes I saw there.
