If a person is, erm, bedridden, and can't get up to go to the loo, I assume they still need to defecate occasionally. Now, I'm familiar with the whole bedpan idea, but enemas are surely used for something. So I was wondering, if they can't get up to let it out in the bathroom, where does the poo go? Does it get syphoned out somehow, or does it go in some form of bedpan, or what?
Enemas can also be used as laxatives. Probably TMI -- but I have a few friends that simply canNOT shit when they go on vacation. NOT defecating is BAD. The body must expel these toxins or you could literally poison yourself with waste. It will NOT syphon itself.
Now then, there are some people that cannot defecate themselves for whatever reason (mostly cancer -- colorectal cancer). These people wear a colostomy bag, and it must be changed. It attaches at the end of the long intestine where the rectum meets. Think of this as an artificial anus.
Were you thinking on a scat or enema fic?
If you need anything explained in better detail -- go ahead and email me.
Hmm -- now catheter. I could see a Lucius/Draco catheter fic.
