I miss writerly experimentation. You don't see as much of it in fandom anymore. Wordsmithing used to be very popular and one of my favourite styles. It's pretty much extinct now.
I think unusual tenses, sentence constructions, etc. tend to get regarded these days as pretentious, unnecessarily fancy, or covering up for lack of good narrative with experimental structure. I wouldn't dare to write such a thing for fear of the scoffing or negative reaction. I suppose you could argue that if the story is good enough it wouldn't have that problem, although otoh you could still get comments like "this would be a good story if only you hadn't laden it with this silly contrivance."
