Gahhhhh, week in which I was totally absent from fandom, where did you go?!?! I am accepting all forms of punishment for my negligence. Take a number and have a seat, please. *G*

Dirty Blue - Albus Severus/Draco [NC-17] by
marguerite_26.
Confession time. I have a terrible addiction fetish. Absinthe, satyriasis, Malfoy-approved brandies. Fags, Firewhisky, Felix Felicis, fornication - if I want to be terribly clever and promote my F-ishism. And Maggie, Ms Brilliance Personified, really knows how to hook me by dangling a tempting fix. Dirty Blue is the new drug on the cobblestones that has the young crowd enslaved. A hallucinogen that produces euphoria and lowers sexual inhibition, DB subtly reminds me of X. Rampant in the clubs, it's not hard to imagine candy kids sucking on pacifiers at wizarding raves. Needless to say, Maggie is able to illustrate the ugly appeal of this new drug with ease. When Draco stumbles upon Albus Severus OD'ing on DB in an alleyway, Draco reluctantly takes Potter home to sober him up… and yeah, it gets kinda crazy-sexy-weird from there. If I might entice you, my readers, with two delicious words from Mr Potter to Mr Malfoy; Show me. Nnnnngggghhhh!
Could You Be a Little Less - Rita Skeeter, Pansy Parkinson, Hannah Abbott, Gabrielle Delacour, Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Tonks, Asteria Greengrass, Padma Patil, and Minerva McGonagall [PG-13 gen] by

Having been in fandom for a long time, I'm always amazed when someone comes up with something I've never seen before. Doubly amazed when it's a new name for me. If I could adequately represent this fic pictorially, it would have to be the theatrical masks for comedy and tragedy. Because, dude, this fic makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. TBN has Rita Skeeter belittling the Potterverse women through gossip so degrading that you want to line your litter boxes with her columns out of spite. A Rita I want to strangle for sure, but a very believable one in that I can absolutely see her whoring her subjects for readership. This fic really makes you think about the Equal Rights Movement and how societal norms continue to set us back to the days of grunts and knuckle dragging.

Second only to my love of Snape gen is my love of Draco gen. In 'The Things Draco Carries', Cat gives us a detailed look at Draco based on the contents of his rucksack from Hogwarts' years one through seven. One point that has always endeared me to Draco has been his love of sweets, in this case, Pepper Imps. Sweets are a recurring theme throughout the years, but there are dozens of everyday minutiae like broom wax and inkwells and parchment rolls, that all serve their purposes. There's even a cleverly crafted potion called 'The Traveller's Saucy Sip' that allows the traveller to speak any language of the country he visits. And every item, rare or commonplace, tells a story. I am completely in love with the fact that Draco has been carrying a first year Potions essay around in his bag for years… for reasons I shan't disclose. The lovely
reira_21 even illustrates for a collab that's twice the nice!
Sic Transit Gloria Mundi - Lucius, Draco [PG-13 gen] by
hereticalvision.
I have what you might call an 'open-door' self-pimpage policy at my journal. I absolutely welcome links from my flist, so please don't be shy. While on the topic of Lucius gen, HV sent me a link to a fic of hers I hadn't seen before. This was a lovely surprise as I am a huge fan of her writing. I love 'Gloria Mundi' because it's both a Lucius character study and a Draco character study. I'd mentioned that I had wanted to glimpse more of Lucius's life behind bars, and this was an affecting look at both the inside and outside perspectives. I love that Lucius can deliver the type of father-son pep talk to make Draco tremble (with awe and fear) and yet still maintain that balance with his internal struggles. This is exactly what I was looking for in terms of thoughtful characterisation made stronger by realisation and not regret.
