I went to high school in a not so nice area, and after I graduated, I found out that about 30% of the students carried guns to class regularly. Not that we ever had a shooting. It was just that so many of the students were also gang members, they were doing it to protect themselves. That being said, I feel safer in that school than I do in some schools where there are fights every day. Our school did not have a single fight (the kind where 10+ people join in) in the 4 years I was there. I am much assured that something like Columbine would never happen where I was at. There are too many people with weapons ready to shoot back.
