One word can describe Sirius - opportunistic.

Remus/Sirius utterly eludes me. I just don't get it at all. This is very strange because I can see him with a variety of people given the right circumstances. But the thought of Remus and Sirius in the same equation just doesn't seem right - like two plus three equals eight. I'm not putting down someone else's ship, but I just don't personally hear a click.

I think it does. I think it's a real shame that there isn't more of that - it always seems to be the least active part of the fandom.

And Narcissa is nicely blonde as well as Lucius. She'd go nicely with all sorts of people.

whoa, i was on drugs or something when i wrote that comment. what i meant to say was:

What Dumbly pairings will you ship?

DD/GG and DD/Elphias Doge

If Rowling had chosen another male character in place of Dumbledore, who do you wish it would have been?

snape. even if he was The Only Gay Wizard and all that rot.

All right, I'm officially blind. ;-> In your last question I chose Snape and Black. Yes, together. Yes, in this way. And only then I noticed your layout, and whose exactly this LJ is...
Well, may be blind, but stumbled in the right direction. ;-p

As for JKR's revelations - my first reaction was squeaky madness with "I was right! I was right all along!" thrown inbetween. Then a thought came that some characters have got even more hints, yet Rowling haven't outed them, which means that... And the second bout of squeeing started. Well, then I sobered a bit. Couldn't she give us this in plain text if she wanted to be sooo tolerant? Yest still, her outing poor Dumbledore looks like a placet for all HP slashers. Who are we to refuse the author? ;-)

I read the "disgust (sheah right :P)" option as *including* the "yeah right" bit, turning it back to positive, jokey.

This bit, however

What I don't understand is how these people can come over and say they don't give a fuck when they were probably the most vocal about there not being any homosexual characters in the first place.

confuses the hell out of me too. There were so many rants on the exclusiv heteronormativity of JKR's world that I'm tempted to read the negative reactions to D's outing as negative not to *that*, but to the fact that JKR jossed their smug righteousness.

Of course this all happens when I'm on a short hiatus for apartment renovations and I miss all the good crack. :-P

When I heard, I knew fandom was going to go batshit and divide itself as it always does. JKR can't win no matter what she does, and I'm frankly quite stunned by a lot of the negative comments I've seen. I mean, sure, I expected it from the anti-slash/homophobic crowd, but the whining from the slashers? The claims that it was a publicity stunt kill me, because, you know, she needs the publicity like she needs a fucking hole in her head. But the "why couldn't it have been X instead because eww, Dumbledore is old" bitching in particular grates on me to no end. I had to stop myself from writing a scathing reply to people on the SB/RL mailing list. And where the hell did she say that DD was the ONLY gay character/wizard?

Fandom makes my brain bleed. I guarantee that if she had been asked about Draco and said that he was gay or bi, suddenly all the "interviews aren't canon" people would be miraculously shouting "IT'S CANON!"

The other thing that kills me is this pervading attitude that now that she's finished writing her seven books, JKR must abdicate all claims to the world and characters SHE created. We're such a bunch of hypocrites. For all the people who complain about that, let's see them give up their "rights" to their fanfic, their fanart, their RP characters and games.

As for your poll, I was ecstatic when I heard, and to be honest, there was more than subtext in DH about it to begin with - she did everything except type the word "gay" in there, and for people who thrive on subtext... Anyway, I chose Remus, but I wouldn't want her to have said he was gay, but rather that he was bisexual. Even despite my shippy R/S tendencies, bisexuality totally suits the way she wrote him.

Btw, Hi! *HUGS* Fun poll! I need more coffee. :-P

He acted bizarrely enough as a straight man.

You rock! :D

I was super-exited to hear it too (or rather, I just found out today, and thought, "Wow, I've been out of the loop for a while!"). But I was also a little disappointed. When reading DH, I could see what sort of evidence Dumbledore/Grindelwald shippers would use, of course, but I didn't really see it myself. So it feels a bit strange to me for it to be the one that's validated by her.

Stay tuned for a similar poll regarding the ladies of HP.

{{{YOU}}}

Yeah, I know, love. You have been a rarepair shipper for as long as I can remember, and I love you for it :-)

Just today? Aww, you are out of the loop! Rather, were. *G*

This comment? Pretty much wins at EVERYTHING. Do I have your permission to use this in a future post, dear?

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2007-10-26 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you elaborate on this more, please? That slashers don't care really makes me curious as to why.

I'm sorry, my micro has broken and I don't have much online time, but I posted about the subject twice the day JKR "outed" Dumbledore. I don't think this "outing" matters at all, because it's not in the books, and it's not "positive" either, because Dumbledore's love was "negative" (I'm using these terms, "positive" and "negative", according to JKR's values, not mine). There are many good posts and articles on the subject, but I have no time to search for the links.

Here's an article saying that it doesn't matter, because it's not in the books:

I have a lot on my plate currently, but I will see what I can do next week.

Oh, and I agree about Narcissa. She's quite yummy. *G* I guess I tried to keep the married with children characters out of the poll, though. Epilogue notwithstanding :P

Well, I still ship Dumbledore/McGonagall. I see him as bisexual. He loved Grindewald, but then he got over him and fell in love with Minerva. Honestly, I'd rather he be gay for Doge. It would make more sense.

As for who I wished she'd outed, I voted Sirius. I'm still of the belief that Sirius was totally gay for James. Her outing Lucius would have been awesome, but I think Sirius is the only one that I ever read as gay in canon.
