[Fic]
Between the Known and the Unknown - Harry/Draco (also Fenrir/Draco and background Lucius/Narcissa, Ron/Hermione and a small bit of Harry/Ginny) [NC-17] by Mystery Author.
Creature fics are very hit and miss with me, but as far as targets are concerned, this one's hit a bull's-eye with me. I never used to be, but am now rather fond of Draco as a werewolf (I prefer the term 'lycan', but I suppose this is less HP preferred). I suppose I can contribute this in part to my growing infatuation of Draco's struggle to find a suitable place for himself in post-war wizarding society. And also a phrase coined long ago by
cluegirl of 'dirtying the blond.' I love that Draco is malleable and can be bent and shaped to our wills, but that he flexes rather than breaks like bamboo. How's that for philosophical Malfoy waxing and waning? *G*
There's a bit of a mystery to this in that Draco's been kidnapped by Fenrir Greyback and Harry has to puzzle out the hows and the whys. Narcissa, much to the dismay of ol' Lucius, attains Harry's help, and what he discovers to be the grim eventuality of that abduction.
One of the things I treasured most about this fic was the characterisations. Usually, I have a few nits and picks here and there, but I had none with this fic. Harry has a delightful, platonic friendship with Hermione and a loving relationship with Ginny even though it's teetering on the brink of a break-up. And, of course, I especially loved the exchanges between Harry and Draco through the tenuous changes of their metamorphoses. And yes, I suppose, I lycan (pun intended) their physical and metaphysical transformations to something of a dark chrysalis. I love how these alterations one-eighty their positions to where they need to be in life and with one another. Not light, not dark, but a fascinatingly grey read.

Enjoy all!
