It is the Moonlight, It is the Rain - Harry/Draco, background Harry/Ginny and Draco/Astoria [R] by Mystery Author.
Honestly? This author tells in just two thousand words what some can't in twenty thousand. Short and sharp. Haunting and visceral. I have a real love of either Harry or Draco (better still, both boys) trying to puzzle out their passion(s). Very evocative and with a killer last line!
The Unexpected Windfall - Harry/Draco [NC-17] by Mystery Author.
♥ ♥ ♥ AWESOME FIC IS AWESOME ♥ ♥ ♥
*inserts toddlerfists of glee, much happymaking and joygasms to the Nth degree*
Heh, probably not the most sophisticated way to start off a rec, but how else am I going to convey how thrilled I was with my
hd_holidays gift?
I think we, as H/D shippers, tend to pick a side. That is to say, even though we care about overall characterisation, we choose one characterisation over the other that matters most. For me, it's always been Draco. And I am just so pleased with this Draco. He couldn't be more perfect than if I had pulled a Gary and Wyatt and Weird Science'd him from an amalgamation of intellects and appearances. This Draco is whip-smart, sharp-witted and charismatic. And right about here is where I mention his love (and mine) of all things green and orally fixating. In fact, he has rather an addictive personality, and okay, I kink MEGAHARD at this. Smoking!Draco should never be this sexy, but DAYUM, that is an undeniable fact. Buttons; pushed, re-pushed, then pushed again.
But enough of your swooning TMP, the masses cry, how about a story synopsis?
First things first, I am seriously in love with this writer's dynamic. It's snarky but never too antagonistic, and quite frankly, perfectly centred in the grand scheme of things. This, for me, creates the ideal working environment with Harry as an Auror and Draco as the outside source assigned to work on Harry's current case. Draco is meticulous and fastidious with Holmesian-like deductive powers, and I kind of love that he has such an effect on Harry. They work together on a phishing scam case designed to bilk the elderly out of their Galleons, and Draco's just as eager to solve the mystery as Harry.
Their working together lends itself to little slices of their domestic lives, and the two of them just happen to share a commonality in being single fathers. There's a lovely scene in which Harry struggles with his own perceptions of being an able parent at the same time secretly admiring Draco's skills. This really resonated with me even as a non-parent. There's just something very endearing to me about juggling families and careers with these two that affects their overall relationship.
And, of course, there's scorching, hot sex with RIMMING and yeahhh I left out with a very warm and fuzzy feeling. With all of the pressures of the upcoming holidays, there's something very therapeutic about immersing yourself in a wonderful tale such as this. I couldn't be more delighted with my gift <3 <3 <3
