Harry/Draco a Go Go
Sep. 29th, 2010 10:17 pmChrist, it's been a week since I last posted. I still have a shit-tonne of various recs to post, but at least I got some writing done in my posting absence.

It's funny. I'm not much of a uniform!kink gal outside of fandom. Sports stars, policemen, firemen - their uniforms do nothing for me. But inside fandom, specifically HP fandom where there are Quidditch uniforms and Minister for Magic robes and Auror robes… Well, now you've got my attention!
There are so many things I love about Mel's fic, one of which is Draco's voice. I know a lot of people frown on present tense, first person pov, but Draco's emotions run deliciously high when he talks about what an imposing figure Harry cuts in his silver-buttoned maroon robes. Draco trembles with fear and desire, and there's just so much delicate vulnerability. I love the neediness and the desperation and Draco laid bare of his own accord for Harry's pleasure. And sure they make a game of this, but there's nary a sliver of humiliation; this is love and respect and passion so deep it makes me ache with it. The best part of this fic though? Even when Harry's stripped bare, Draco's so worked up he still worships at the altar of Potter.

Things that are joymaking; (1.) finding money you thought you'd lost in your clothes dryer, (2.) fitting into a pair of jeans you couldn't fit into previously, (3.) discovering one of your favourite authors took a break from her professional endeavours to indulge in a bit of fanfic.
If you picked option number three, then do I have a rec for you.
Sansa, bless her heart, took part in
serpentinelion's Glompfest, a fest in celebration of readership. Her fic caught me completely by surprise, even after she'd asked her flist months earlier for an answer to a canon question. Sneaky, darling, sneaky.
Landslide is a Draco-centric story in which Draco takes over Filch's position as caretaker. Of course, this goes against his father's wishes. But instead of succumbing to Lucius's needling and verbal abuse, Draco takes the high road and plays the hand he's dealt with more grace than you'd ever thought possible. I love that this Draco takes his job seriously and does not fall victim to the children's taunts. Moreover, he's happy mostly, taking each day in stride. This is a Draco that looks to the future, with only an occasional glance back to the past. He's neither really liked nor really hated either. In fact, he's perfectly middle-ground, and that's what makes this Draco so believable for me.
Enter Potter and little Teddy, gone missing. Little Teddy's quite sick, and in a fight to save the boy's life, Harry runs away with him to try and find a cure for the boy's mysterious illness.
Duty-bound to keep the school safe, Draco investigates two separate incidents that take place outside of the castle near an isolated wall. Fearing the anomalies may be magical in nature, Draco follows up with a search, and I'm sure you can wager a guess as to what he finds. Only after that, this fic takes a number of unexpected turns.
This is such an engrossing story, that I was drawn in immediately. Beautiful storytelling and wonderful characterisations. And just such a pleasant surprise to see something new from our dear Sansa. Highly recommended.
