A Reccer's Rant

People get hate mail for a lot of reasons.

Me, I get it for reccing.

Okay, so maybe 'hate mail' is a bit strong. Shall we say 'reccing critiques?'

To the best of my knowledge, nobody else gets these 'reccing critiques', and I know a lot of reccers with varied tastes/interests. I know that I try to keep an open mind and rec a variety of fics and arts. And these recs are just as much for me as they are for my flist. In short, they are for everyone. I try not to play favourites. I rec well-knowns and unknowns, but always for the same reason; I enjoyed it, and I wanted to pass it on to others.

Now, I'm a grown woman. I can deal with the snotty 'You rec too much Snape/Harry, Harry/Draco, Snape/Hermione etc' comments. Or the 'Why don't you rec more het, femslash, crossdressing, My Little Pony (Whut?) etc' comments.

But asking me in an COWARDLY ANONYMOUS MISSPELLED email why I never rec your stuff is FUCKING BULLSHIT!

First off -- who the fuck are you? Secondly -- who the fuck are you?

If you can't talk to me openly and honestly, um, fuck off.

I often wonder if these emails are jokes, because I can't believe that people could be this fucking rude or this fucking stupid. The fuck.

Let me spell something out for you 'o annoying fuckwad emailers'...

Reccers do not get paid for doing this. This is not our job. It is very time consuming, though. And I sometimes put my writing on hold to rec.

Most of the time, we don't get recognition. But that's perfectly all right by us. We don't rec for that reason. We rec because we enjoy fandom, and we delight in sharing our findings. However, and this is a big fucking however, we do not deserve or appreciate your rudeness or your hostility.

I can't speak for everyone here when I say this, but if you don't like what I rec, you can duly kiss my Kraut arse. Nobody's forcing you to click on those links. If you don't like what you see, move the fuck on. I rec a lot. We rec a lot. There's bound to be something to your liking sooner or later.

I only ask one thing. Be respectful.
